Lottery Winner would buy what kind of Stereo Gear

If you were to win the Powerball or Megamillions what would your stereo system consist of and why?
rleff
Rleff, with the new Toroid II's the speakers are a lot easier to drive, to the point that MA-1s are fine and dandy. You are welcome to call me for more info.
First: Build a separate building next to my home dedicated to audio only, properly treated, own power panel, connected to my home via a tunnel. Non-audio power needs provided by home as well as heat and a/c. So dedicated panel would be strictly for gear.

Second: Start shopping for gear.
Brian since I see that you popped in on the thread I was wondering if you were driving the soundlab speaker(mine are m2's) with the ma1 and were considering the ma2 what is it that this move would do for you if all else remains the same?
I would have to audition the MBL system, a Kharma Grand Exquisite system, a Marten Coltrane Supreme system, Avalon Isis, and a Lumenwhite system. I would have a house built around a room that would best replicate the audition I preferred.
Transmission Audio Ultimate. According to a recent article they have orders for two of these $2 million systems.
You sir, obviously don't know how intimate I get with my room treatments!! haha :)
You're right and I DON'T want to know. LOL!!!

You guys are audiophile Geeks, you can't think of anything better to do with supermodels than room treatment? LOL!!!!!

Phaelon, super models are good for diffusion, terrible for absorption. Besides, you probably couldn't get them to be quite; "this is like, totally unfair to have to just stand here. Don't they know I'm a super model and I don't deserve to be treated like this."
I would put together my "dream system" from the days when I first became involved in this obsession, (1990ish,) and a two versions of current state of the art, one tube based, and one solid state based. I would likely derive more enjoyment finding the used components for my early 90's dream system than I would assembling a modern state of the art rig. It would be nice to see how close the twenty year old setup could come to the latest, greatest. I'm betting, pretty close. B&W 800s, or Sonus Faber Extremas would be my starting point, and I would work back from there.
I'll need a fourth system too, electrostat or ribbon based...big Apogees, anyone?
How ever much money I would have at my disposal, it's against my nature to buy extraordinarily expensive gear that depreciates faster than Cyprian banking confidence.
"I'd be too busy dating supermodels to worry about audio....”

I’d hire Rives or some other sound guru to calibrate my room using supermodels as acoustic treatments.

Why do you need to win a lottery to date supermodels?
I would buy a restored 1947 Capehart radio = phonograph. I am so impressed with the Erb designed record changer that could play a stack of 16 records , play both sides and continue over and over or stop and shut off. It would do all this with speakers and remote radio selection from many other rooms . All tube electronics and seperate amps for by amped Jensen speakers. And then maybe a all McIntosh or Audio Research system like I had ten and fifteen years ago.
I could afford the Capeheart but I need a room to put it in,I moved in this smaller house when I retired. But to see that changer in action , just touches a nerve. So as long as we are playing I'll add to the wish, Thanks David
Because even at their best various speaker designs have their pros and cons, I would buy two or three systems, which makes me feel gluttonous just thinking about it. But seriously, probably YG Acoustics and Sanders Sound or Soundlabs and turntables that I have no real business owning.

I'd buy the MBL reference system and have a custom house built with a custom sound room to put it in.

Sorry about that ya'all - MBL paid me big bucks to put a CD into their system. ;)
Rrog,
Firstly, I apologize for misspelling your username in my last post - darn carless of me.

"What would you do?"

I would seek to improve the musical experience in every way that it touches my life. I would certainly enjoy more live music and endeavor to discover new talents before they became large venue celebrities. I would also commit to building a music system that conveys music’s inner truths as I perceive them to be. I would expand my music library manyfold. Not just because of my passion for older music, but because of the influence that older music has on my appreciation for newer music. One always gains insight into something new, when it can be appreciated in the historical context of its evolutionary journey.
"Prog, “or”? Why do you regard them as mutually exclusive?"

My comment was about a short list of artists. My point was how many times can you listen to the same thing over and over and over again. Nothing to do with the two being mutually exclusive. I know there are many folks with huge record collections they picked up for 99 cents a copy and it makes it hard to pay real world prices for new music, but this thread is about winning a lottery and having enough money to do whatever you want. What would you do?
"You can live in the past or explore new artists.”

Prog, “or”? Why do you regard them as mutually exclusive?

I’m curious; do you feel the same way about literature? Why read old books like “Moby Dick” or “To Kill a Mockingbird” when there are so many new books?
Rleff, That would be my only home, probably right on the beach in SoCal or Hawaii. I wouldn't bother owning another home, just travelling the globe. ;)
I love the big MBL speakers, but I don't think my home would be set up for the gold on white MBL look. OTOH....

If you're gonna go the route of the guy in the MBL video, make sure that you reserve a few bucks for the red silk ascot. And don't forget to practice your "air piano"!

Marty
SteinMusic Harmonizer, the new Acoustic Revive R-777 high-power Schumann Frequency Generator, complete set of Frank Tchang Acoustic Resonators, my choice of 100 WA Quantum Chips, PWB Red X Coordinate Pen and Quantum Clip, Audio Magic Pulse Gen ZX.
For myself I would love to buy Atmasphere's MA3's with his pre amp driving soundlab's current top of the line speakers in a room setup properly for the best listening enviroment possible;not to sure on the sources though but that MBL player sure looked very nice and of course turntable/cartridge combo as well.
"Yeah, but that is a free choice.
Not a valid criticism.
The fact one can explore nearly endless old music, is just as valid as chasing all over Hell and back listening to 'new' music.
Making the mistake of thinking what you want is the best for anyone else?"

From the person who thinks it's ok to believe your stereo system sounds better than live unamplified music and now I am informed my criticism is not valid.
One of the problems lottery winners have is the inability to enjoy old pleasures in the same way they used to. They often wind up less happy. If I had the ability to assemble a "cost no object" system I'm not sure I'd enjoy it more than my relatively modest but personally tweeked system that gives me so much pleasure now.

"Some of my favorite artists: Sinatra, Miles, Holiday, Rubinstein..."

You can live in the past or explore new artists.
I'd have the house and room built then fly in the designers of my favorite equipment and then have a garage built so that every bit of equipment was built in the garage then tranfered to the listening room. Even the boxes would be made there in case I ever wanted to move my never shipped items. I'm just getting warmed up for this first stereo, the next one would really be crazy.

I'd have two systems: an mbl set-up like in the video (thanks mofi!) in a custom built soundproof room designed specifically for the mbl set-up. I heard that rig at rmaf and it is my favorite stereo I've heard in my entire life. I'd have the room designed by rives audio.

My second system would be whatever comes in a ferrari 458 spider (even though the true music comes with the top down at 9,000 rpm ;-)
Nothing would change. Why should it? This is a never vending quest. The big leagues just might end up being the minors, though.
You meant to say systems, didn't you Rleff? I would set up at least 3 systems, Horns with SET, Ribbons/Planars with Solid State, and Dynamic with Tubes. Certainly each would have it's own custom designed room.
"Why buy a stereo when you could travel the world listening to your favorite artists live?”

Some of my favorite artists: Sinatra, Miles, Holiday, Rubinstein...
Mofimadness-Thanks for the link to that video;it was awesome;any chance you been able to audition any of the gear in that video?
Would have to buy a house and room to put it in first, then see. I would start out with what I have but definitely be curious about how I might improve if money is not an object. I would not just blindly go and spend another 10s of thousands or more on new stuff just because I could.
Why buy a stereo when you could travel the world listening to your favorite artists live?
None, he will invest in more lottery tickets. I understand he is an illegal, so he will be returning to his native place and buy the country.
