I don't know much about Linns, but what you describe about the vocalist sounds like your system is out of L - R phase. Try reversing the connections to one of your speakers. Of course the out of phase problem may also originate at the connection of your cartridge pins. The latter would likely be true if your digital player did not evidence the same problem.
