Linear Tracking Turn Table Not Tracking

I have a Sony PS-FL77 turn table that stops tracking after a couple of minutes. Does anyone have suggestions as to where I should start looking for the cause of this problem

Check all the physical stuff first: lubed gears, clean sensor contacts. You can also put a volt meter on the motor that moves the arm and verify when it receives voltage-hopefully the motor goes when that happens. If it does and the problem is it stops getting voltage to trigger the motor movement look at the sensor contacts and that circuit. Good luck.

I found the problem with tracking. The rubber drive belt from the servo was old and slipping. I took it off and cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol. Then I did what I do on my laser printers when the paper pickup starts causing problems. I put a light coating of automotive belt dressing on the pulleys and belt.

I admire your frugality. But:

If you can scrounge up $12.90, you can get a new belt!
