Lampizator Big7 as a preamp

FWIW. I have used a Meitner dac for years. Got in a Lampizator Golden Atlantic TRP w/ built in volume control in for a trial. It sounded very close to the Meitner.  Then I decided to try going direct to my amps from the Lampi.  Wow, everything I had hoped for with tubes in the system was more pronounced and no loss of detail. Now have the preamp up for sale.  I'd have to say that if you have the opportunity to get your hands on a Lampi for a trial, do it. Can't comment on your type of speakers but it has changed my thought process completely. The tube rolling thing is really interesting and I've just gotten into the tailoring aspect of this. Loads of fun! 

I moved from the BADA DAC II to the Lampizator Big 7 with volume control, and it was so much better in every parameter, IME.   I think you will only enjoy your music's sound that much more.  And the ability to tune the sound by rolling the tubes is a very nice thing, too.

Lampi straight to amp is a pathway I love so much every time I switch to it. 

I've also given consideration to trying a Lampi with volume control in order to eliminate the need for a preamp.  I'm going to need a balanced design, because I'm driving long (9M) ICs.  Any of you folks got a balanced unit, or are you using SEs with short ICs to your amp?  If any of you who have responded are driving long ICs, that would be helpful for me to know.

First : build quality is like DIY product( especially in this price )
sonically is good, colourfull with weight and body, but resolution and detail is better in Berkeley
The most important: quality of build in preamp is much better in Berkeley, directly connect to my active speakers /power amplifier no contest BADA wins

I borrowed Lampi Big7 and I am little disapointed

Actually had a slightly similar experience at a private audition of the "Pacific" which, to be fair, sounded very good with a big soundstage, 3dimentionality, and good rendition of detail—but at a price. The guy then played us a Meitner (probably the more expensive one...) which, while excellent, was not as good as the Lampi.
He then switched to a dac none of us had heard of, called "Absolute by Ideon" and blew us away: frequency response more extended than the Lampi, esp in the bass, energy and dynamics beyond what I heard before, details we had not realized were present in the recordings—but esp dynamics and bass. We had the impression it dived +1 octave lower than the Lampi (impression of course) and there was prodigious energy coming out of the speakers. Anyway, thee Absolute played directly sounded near indistinguishable from the sound via a pre amp...Anyway, just a little experience to share.

@donpen21, what tubes were used on the Big 7?  I also prefer using my Big 7 as the preamp.  The tubes do make a difference.

It was 300B Psvane version, so better than standard

Try the Psvane 101D WE replicas if you want better detail resolution while still keeping the musicality.  That's where I went with my Big 7, and I never found a 300B in it that I liked.  Just my experience.  The tubes do make very important differences.
