Maybe somthing happened to the transpormer inside the power amp because using 4 ohm speaker with 8 ohm terminal ?That's a scary thought. However I'd expect a tube to fail before the output transformer did. Loading an amp like that means that the tubes see half the load they they would if the speaker were on the 4 ohm tap.
So it doesn't sound right on the CDs either?
Buy a system set up disc, Isotek $30 or XLO $30. to check you have everything in phase, either Discs will run a 20HZ bass sweep. I use both discs regularly to check everything is all OK, also they both offer a demagnetizer which is good to run threw system once a week, fortnight or every month. Move your Speakers back towards wall behind them an inch at a time, playing a disc with good bass you know well.
But to have good bass then lose it, sounds like a fault in your system somewhere, my guess is the amp.
How is the midrange and top end ?
Have they altered too?
