Krell Showcase set up help for newbie

I am a newbie and this will be my first HT. My installer cannot come for a couple of weeks and I got all my gear. So I installed the gear my self. Well, connected all the wires anyway. The issue I think I am having is that I am stuck in Dolby Pro Logic II.
I do not think the Showcase is auto-detecting Dolby Digital 5.1. After selecting the Dolby Digital 5.1 in the DVD set up options, the front panel display still says Dolby Pro Logic II. I set up the DVD in the Configure Devices menu to default to Dolby Digital 5.1. Never the less, it always defaults to Dolby Pro Logic II. The display always says Dolby Pro Logic II and the LCD for Dolby Pro Logic II is always lit. The manual say to press M2, I keep pressing it and the only options it gives me is different variations of Dolby Pro Logic II (Dolby Pro Logic II + THX, Dolby Pro Logic II Movie, etc.) and the Krell music modes.

The same thing is happening with the CD setup - always defaulting to Dolby Pro Logic II Movie despite its default to Dolby Digital 2.0. The only way I can listen to 2 channels is by pressing the Stereo button on the front panel.

DTS is auto-detecting just fine. The front panel display says DTS 5.1 after selecting it in the DVD set up options.

How do I know a movie is playing in Dolby Digital 5.1 and not Dolby Pro Logic II?

Thanks in advance for any help,
Cap

"Captaincapitalism"?? Nice moniker. I'd suggest you throw it away and buy a new one.
Throw away the krell?? I'd sooner throw away my mother-in-law. I think it is probally a setting in the DVD player.
I have a HTS 7.1 (setup is probably the same). If its not a setting on the dvd player, I would check your defaults for each source/input. For the dvd player make sure you have gone with digital not analog (none selected). Then check the default mode...dvd...if the default is DPII it won't permit a higher mode. If its set for DD, DD THX, DD THX Movies it will select that if available....it will only select a lower mode (such as DP) if the disc doesn't have DD. Hope this helps.

If not, give Krell a call. They should be able to walk you through it.
I dont have a Krell Showcase but I will take stab at this anyway =). It sounds like the Krell Showcase is only "seeing" either a PCM signal or analog signal.

In the Krells setup, do you have the input type selected as "digital" on the input assigned to the DVD player??

Do you have a digital cable from the DVDs "digital out" to the "digital in" on the Krell?
Captaincapitalism: You're probably too busy counting your money to notice my poor attempt at sarcism.

Issue resolved. The DVD player was set for analog output. Showcase is auto-detecting just fine now.

Thanks.
