Krell Serial Numbers, How do they Work?

I just purchased a used preamp and the serial # starts with a 6. I'm guessing that means the model year of the unit is '96. Does anybody out there know if that is correct and if not how do you decode the serial # without actually calling Krell?

The third and fourth numbers are the year manufactured and the fifth and sixth numbers are the month manufactured.
They reflect the number of times each individual piece of product has been returned for repairs.
