Joey DeFrancesco

RIP 8/26

The greatest organist and jazz multi-instrumentalist leaves us after just 51 years of living and sharing his music almost since he was born.

He was extremely obese so that might play the critical factor of his sudden death.

My favorite record is him with John McLaughlin Live in Tokyo

RIP Joey. His live record - "Live at the 5 Spot" is really good. Also, his record w/ special Guest Jimmy Smith - "Incredible!" is also really good. He will be missed. Sorry I never had an opportunity to see him live.

Joey also did an album with Danny Gatton entitled Relentless. For those who have yet to hear either of them, kill two birds with one stone! Released on CD in 1994 by Big Mo Records.

wonderfully talented, saw him numerous times live over the years, cheerful spirit, very likeable

he was such a large man, i suspected he might not see a ripe old age

rip joey, you will be missed

+1 on The Free Spirits

RIP big guy.

He did some nice Sinatra style recordings too.

I’m very sad to hear this. I saw him preform live at a nice jazz venue in Chicago about 8 years ago. He moved away from his organ on one song to play the trumpet  during the show (Very well by the way). He died far too young. RIP Joey D.

Charles

RIP  He played on a few Van Morrison CDs, I'm just listening to The Prophet Speaks, now excellent recording.
