Joan Jeanrenaud

On NPR radio today, I heard artist:

Joan Jeanrenaud
CD Title: Strange Toys
Track: "Axis"

. . . and was mesmerized!

Anyone else know of this artist? And any other recommendations?

Jeanrenaud was the cellist in the Kronos Quartet for many years. Anyone who fancies the creative use of the cello should look into Erik Friedlander's "Block Ice & Propane", a musical take on Americana that is totally individual.
Joan's album Metamorphosis is excellent as well.

You might also like Zoe Keating's One Cello x 16, which uses techniques similar to some of Strange Toys. Zoe was also featured on NPR.

Another innovative cello album that I really enjoy is Okkyung Lee's Nimh, on the Tzadik label.
