Is there a budget preamp that stands out?

Looking to spend 200 or less, I have a technics 1200 with the ubiquitous ShureM97XE. Currently, I have a Kenwwod receiver that is about ten years old that has a phono out and works so so. I listen to alot of jazz, but also a decent amount of pop from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. As always, any input is greatly appreciated--Cheers

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking for. Are you looking to replace the Kenwood receiver? If so, check out some of the refurbished Harmon/Kardon receivers at their website. If what you're looking for is an external phono preamp, I'd recommend the Parasound zPhono as a good bang for the buck.

The Cambridge Audio phono preamps are getting good buzz.
The 640p which does MC and MM can be had for $169 new.
The 540p which is MM only is $89 new.
Silver or Black cases if you care.

Places like Spearit Sound will ship it free as well.
Agreed. I use a 640P with my Technics SL-1200/Shure M97XE combo and it sounds great. Got it at Spearit too!
A Bellari VP-129 for less than $200 would add a nice tube warmth and match well with your high output Shure.
