I also have the card deluxe and the same problem. But for analog input, I use an inexpensive creek passive preamp which you should be able to fine used for under $200.
Input level on DAL Card deLuxe?
The Digital Audio Labs Card Deluxe doesn't seem to have any way to set analog input level. Apparently it's incompatible with the Windows mixer and volume control. I'm using CoolEdit 2000 which doesn't have any level setting on it's own, it relies on the Windows mixer (like lots of other software, it seems). I don't care if I lose a bit or 2 of resolution, I can always record at 24 bit and downconvert to 16 bit later. Getting an external mixer seems needlessly complicated. Any suggestions welcome.
