Impedance question AGAIN. KR with spendor LS3/5a

My basic question: any comment is welcome.>>>>>>>

I have a KR 18bsi integrated amp with factory preset at 4 ohms, and it can be changed to 8 ohms by open the bottom plate. I am using a 11 ohms Spendor LS3/5a with 83db only.

1) should I change the amp to 8 ohms? pls let me know why/why not to change.

2) what is the difference with the 4/8 ohms change.

3) with the 83db speakers, and the amp is only 18 watts (with the KR 842 tubes), any comment?

I really don't want to turn the amp up-side-down to change to 8 ohms, because the amp is 70 lbs and you never know after you turn it upside down, something will be falling apart????, PLS ADVISE ME ????(I will do the change if you can give me a good answer)

Hi Tomho, nice amp/speaker combo there (I used to have the Rogers equivalent -- 16 ohms). Is there something wrong with the sound now?? Anyway, to your questions:

>what is the difference with the 4/8 ohms change<
Better matching the speaker load to output transformer. (i.e. it sounds better or worse depending upon which tap you use) Is there a problem driving the LS3's as is?

>I really don't want to turn the amp up-side-down to change to 8 ohms<
Humm, any qualified electrician who could help? I've never tinkered with your KR, so don't know if difficult soldering is involved -- BUT changing taps is usually easy (HOWEVER watch for stray current!!! Don't touch caps!!! And wait till the unit is cold -- esp. the tubes -- before doing anything).

>with the 83db speakers, and the amp is only 18 watts (with the KR 842 tubes), any comment?<
Assuming you mean driving problems and having heard this amp driving the Rogers LS3/5A, I have nothing noteworthy to add. If anything, the amp drove the speakers loud enough to turn down the volume... But I've no idea which tap was being used, 4 or 8ohm... sorry.
Good luck!
