Hum.....??

I finally got around to connecting a set of Kimber Hero's to the tt last night. I had neck surgery about 6 weeks ago and wasn't allowed to lift much of anything. These cables were a very tight fit on the SME arm. Anyway, now I have hum in both channels. I'm presuming the Hero's are not fully shielded and therefore not suitable for a phono ic.

Is this correct?

Sometimes shielding is not the issue. I had a pair of Audioquest cables between the pre-pro RCA out and my HT input on the pre-amp and had a devil of a time figuring out that they were not properly grounded and the source of my hum. I changed cables and the hum went away. And, the new cables were cheaper! Try a different set of cables. Kimber uses a twisted pair geometry to act as shielding. I use a fully shielded IC from the TT to the pre-amp on the theory that the signals are so small that I don't want to amplify any extraneous signals. Just a thought.
