How many pair of speakers do you own?

Since I am a self proclaimed speaker nut, I was trying to justify to my wife that having 5 pair of speakers is normal for an audiophilic addict. Curious also about what type, Dynamic, Planar, Single Driver etc; If you are member of this sight, you probably have a mania towards some component or other. Mine is Loudspeakers, which I learned early are 70% of your system. To me they may be >> 80%

Five pairs which I will eventually pare down to the three (the first three) speakers.

Altec 846A Valencia
Quad ESL 57 electrostats
Quad ESL 63 electrostats paired with a Gradient SW-63 (both are in need of repair)
Snell Type J II
Snell Type J III

As for future acquisitions, I may try to buy a gently-used Devore Orangutan O/96 at some point in time.   Once the Big Move from Southern to Northern California takes place later this year and my house remodel is done, I'll be running the Quad speakers with Audio Research or Quad II gear and I've been running the Altec's with my Shindo gear.

The "end of the road" is in sight!
3 pair

Clearwave Duet 6 monitors-presently in use
Tonian Labs TL-D1s_not in use
Audioengine 2 for my computer

All the best,
Nonoise

I have 7 pair, only listen to three at any one time. Main system, office system, and my son has one pair in his system. I will likely buy more some day. It's a little like black tar or crack.

I have 8 + pairs in total and several project speakers.  I have left out the garage sale stuff that turned out to be junk, e.g. Marantz early 70s I guess Marantz bookshelf made in Japan.

2 pair of Klipsch heritage  Heresy is my first big HiFi buy in 1976 and a pair of 1978 La Scalas.

2 pairs of JBL Signature Series circa late 50s early 60s both 16 Ohm.

1 pair of Tannoy Gold in DCM? type cabinets de-veneered and spray painted by some one but not on drivers .

1 pair of Von Schweickert  VR2s made in San Diego not China beautiful veneer with rear facing ambience driver user adjustable.

1 pair of JM Lab Focal Electra 936s no Titanium  tweeter version

1 Pair of Hyperion 585 book shelf.

That's all for now not including 4 pair of headphones.

  • 7.5 pairs of B&W,Cornwall I'1s,3 subs,Bose 601 and that's just in my recroom theater,another 3 sets in my back bedroom buried

I meant not the Beryllium tweeter version.  I never got  the upgrade bug with these.

I just couldn't find the right amp for them, over years of trying multiple tweaks and pre amps.    They are truly the best example of a analytical and highly detailed sounding speakers I have owned .

The Best pre for them turned out to be a  two 6SN7 - AE-3 from Cary's sub brand AES that cost me all of $350 used.  When I finally  tried some tube power amps in my case mono blocs, when Joe T was importing Consonance products. The world of great music suddenly appeared.  Yep just some crazy good sounding Chinese Consonance Cyber 800 monoblocs, with 4 EH 6CA7s in each and  NOS input and driver tubes.  I don't think the rest of their stuff is nearly as good, there is something in the trannies and circuit they used for these amps.

8 pairs of Infinity speakers.

Hi,
Over the past 35 years I have had over 300 different speaker models through my reference listening room, models, not brands. I currently have 3 different sets of speakers that I play with. Once I find a set of speakers that works better with my reference equipment I keep that set and eliminate one of the sets of speakers that I consider not as good a match to my set up. My preference for the past few years has been high efficiency speakers that are matched up well to the proper amplifier.
Cheers,

I have two pair. Dan D'Agostino designed satellite/sub system and Thiel CS2. Well behind many of you owning multiple sets. I am jealous!:) Budget and spouse allowing (there's the rub), I would buy more. Hooked on audio since 1975.
For 2 channels system, 3 pairs, 2 pairs floor stand, one pair bookshelf. In this case, I can change speaker from time to time (just like woman....)

I own 8 pairs of speakers.

1. Tyler Acoustics Woodmere II (using currently) 2 channel

2 Yamaha ns 1000 (from about 1978, bought new by me at 19 years old) My son is using these. Still sound great but don't look so good. I was hard on them not him.

3 Klipsch  kg3 (office system)

4 Sonab, Small with single tweeter (currently not using)

5 6 7 8 Paradigm Monitor 11, Monitor 3, Mini Monitor, Titan, & CC370 Signature 12 sub(currently using 9.1)

I have six (4 too many) King Sound King v1 (for sale)    Triangle Celius 202 (for sale)     Triangle Antal 30 yr Ann edition (for sale)     Magnepan 1.6qr  Thiel cs7 (for sale)   Thiel cs2 (for sale)
I have five:

1. Wilson Audio Sophia 2
2. Vienna Acoustics Strauss
3. Tannoy Definition D-700
4. B&W 805N
5. Pioneer HPM-40's, my very first pair of speakers
plus 3 center channels and 4 subwoofers. Way too much!
Who wants what?
5 pairs.
3 pairs for 3 different systems and 2 pairs attached to the same system (both connected to the same source and amplifier, in different locations - one pair is right in front of the sofa for movies and near field listening, the other pair is along the perpendicular wall for a complete room filling and loud listening).
All of them in different rooms.
Computer (2)
Living room (1)
Family room (1)
Workshop (2), sometimes 3 if I'm messing around.
Race car hauler (1)
All are just stereo, except for one of the computer systems that has a sub.

Five and one half  Pairs(not counting computer types) and that’s 3pairs too many. One pair on loan to family member, One pair in rebuild mode, Two pairs switching places at whim or whenever I’m looking for a different tonal experience.

Currently three, my main listening room are Revel M106, in  my workshop are some vintage KLH Model 2 Computer Controlled speakers which still sound pretty good, and some Boston CR 7 in my garage.
Revel Salon 2
Vienna Acoustics Beethoven
Kef R107/2
Epicure Model 3
Revel voice1
The Salon  2 is really all one could ask for while proper setup is critical, the Beethovens are a steal for the money and I really like what they do. The speakers to touch the soul of the listener Kef R107/2 still have world class bass and serve front mains in my 3 channel ht.My Ultima voice, all 72 lbs of it take up most of my tv stand but are worth it. The epicure model 3 have a hot tweeter that makes everything I play exciting, they're currently waiting for me to clean the garage.
One of my rich friend has 150 pairs of vintage speakers which will fetch around 10M $.

But I keep just three.
Combined new retail price is 70K$ much humbler than my friend.

You shall stock speakers worth  at least 1 M$.

Ha Ha.

Your wife may want to harass me.
