How many NICE looking high end floor standing speaker are there at present

Hi,
Sometimes when I dream, imagining of replacing my current 1997 Burmester 961 speakers, before maybe COVID19 is sending me to an early grave - I'm practically only stumbling on ugly often even like somehow crippled looking speaker creations.
Test will say, sounding fantastically gorgeous and - looking like 💩.
This, or par tout looking like some or other children's coffin ⚰. 😥👻

Not for the life of it, can I imagine ever having some such 'creation' invading my daily living space. Ever.

Talking 'bout a BAD WAF situation, I say.

Some makers are trying to improve on this tragic situation with creations looking far too anatomical or something alien👾 fruit thing hanging off a tree... handle an' all.

Is there no hope out there at all...? 🤔

So can one savely move on forgetting about a replacement, still in this here life, and saving the money 💰 ?

Well, the budget <= max 20k $ lets say, so I won't risk starving before the lockdown will end ever. 😱

Um, - Horses for courses - ✔️

Though not my course, I'm honestly saying.

@fsmithjack
In one word - AMAZING -

(so long you'll share her liking for some time to come...?)

Actually, quite a dizzying 'merry-go-round' of amazing items, by the sound of it.

Michélle 🇿🇦

Modern Ohm Walsh speakers are unique looking and sounding and very inobtrusive with a fairly small footprint  not much larger than the driver diameter itself.   Driver size ranges from the size of a CD for smaller rooms to 12" for larger.
Just brought home a pair Focal Sopra 2 in Walnut. First pair of speakers my wife said she loves.

She never really though much of any of my other speakers. Magico S5 MK II and MK I, Technic SB-C700, Rethm Saadhana, Sonus Faber Guarneri Evolution, Wilson Sophia 2, Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor, Kharma CRM 3.2FE, Audio Physic Virgo, Merlin Music Systems TSM-MMe, Martin Logan Spire, Vantage, ESL and a bunch of others I can think of. She loves the Sopra's.
@headphonedreams

Oh Boenike, yes.
Looking at their design I'm tempted to concede, they must be a cut above my current items - as I'm sure and as I recall, their pricing for certain as well, eh?!
My Burmesters where 'only' in the 10—15k US$ range at the time...

Alas, I'd have to relocate to my home country 🇩🇪, before those beauties could become an option.

European high-end speakers are unobtanium these days where I now live 🇿🇦, save Sonus Faber (for all I can tell).

Thankfully my Burmester 961s are still pretty well and alive, despite there age (purchased 1996 in Munich) now may be considered vintage/old... 😏
Michélle 🇿🇦
@justmetoo I don't know why I missed your response a few months back but Audiogon just notified me about it.

Boenicke does not in my opinion sound analytical or thin. You can find some reviews online about them.

From 6moons:
" So... organic hi-rez then? Spot on. It's a perfect takeaway to remember this Boenicke by when it's time to sort out one's final speaker options."

@hornguys

Hi, yeah, Joseph's speakers are jolly nice.
They sure are. ✔️

Now, I'm not an FB user anymore.
Seems they don't like me to look there any more...?

Thanks also, 👍
Michélle
@tweak1
In my old home town we'd have maybe called those Emerald Physics 'e Brettle'.
Just saying, no insult meant of course.
BTW, 'e Brettle' translates into something like 'a little board'... 😉

I'm still connected to there -- a bit.
In short, colours or what else not, they wouldn't work in any case, as I have not sufficient backwall space for dipoles.
And just to mention it again, neither for panels of any kind.
Thanks though for the suggestion. ✔️
Michélle

Assuming you're still in this hunt, you can get Emerald Physics in colors. I just got a pair of 3.4s in Audi Blue and soon a pair of 2.8s in Bentley Green
@audioquest4life

Holy mo!... Can not argue with the eye, nor the ear I guess, of the beholder.

Or as they already agreed to say in the ancient times in Rome: "De gustibus non disputandum est!"

And solong you also have the 💪 to move and set up these monsters. 🤗
Michélle 🇿🇦

You know what they say, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", or something like that. How about the Classic Audio Loudspeakers T1.5 reference?

@davisbryant

Sounds all good, what else can I say? 😉

So far the best looking and I'm sure sounding alternative to my current gear.

Now I'll see if these day-dreams will concur - and strong enough to talk to my savings. 😏

Avalon and Rowland gear. Can anyone object to that?
Maybe my pocketbook?
Anyone else? 🤔
Michélle 🇿🇦
No class D here! An older Model 112, all AB power. I much prefer the older sealed cabinet and Charles Hansen designed Avalon speakers. The older ones tend to use an aramid (kevlar or nomex) for the drivers and the tweeter can be replaced with a ceramic one direct from Avalon
@davisbryant

Almost completely agree with your take/tast. My only 🤔 caveat (these days...) is their predominant use of drivers like having cermaic membrane and metal dome tweeters.
Looks and make/quality are right up my alley 😍!
As for the Rowland gear - great - ! so long its not class D... 🙄
Ever so picky, eh?
☺ Michélle 🇿🇦
I know it's already been mentioned before, but Avalon Acoustics speakers with a Jeff Rowland front end. I've seen a lot of people recommending boxes with drivers that all look the same. Avalon sure as hell doesn't look like much of anything else but with all the veneer finishes, can match just about anything. A bit of a personal recommendation, but I find the pairing of the sleek and polished Rowland gear and the tight, angular, and still somehow smooth, Avalon speakers to be the perfect match.
I'm in complete accordance! Spin some Records or CDs!! 🎹🎻🎺🎷🥁 Enjoy
@yoby
Too homely looking - somehow...
Seem too have this 'green renewable energy look' about them (why do I think knitting coarse lambs-wool cardigans now?) or made of bamboo or so?  L = 1/(SQ - X) ? 🤔

Also, if more than one tweeter - mo betta have second placed in rear. ✔️
Giving those others seriously a miss.

Two stacked AMTs behind a wave-guide are fine; L = SQ 👍

But thanks, for sharing your preference!
Michélle 🇿🇦
@isochronism
Shoosh now. 😃
All we'd come to was, that they inversly proportional in looks to sound quality ¦
SQ = 1/L ... ✔️

No more ⛽ or 🔥 is needed to solve the issue, so... now just enjoy the music 🎶 👋🤣
Michélle 🇿🇦

Michelle, I honestly DO appreciate your fleeting attempt at TRYING liking my speakers., for me, at least. Actually the other two times I mentioned these in other threads no one had any experience or much to say. Granted, your interest is in lighting these on fire ⛽️ .... at least it IS SOME sort of attention. All is fun and we both found our own likes. 🥂

@isochronism
Isochronostically speaking - it sounds like you made the right choice.
In particular if they sound as great, as they don't look. Kind of counterintuitive, eh? ☝️

Its still some enigma to me, how such a cupboard, or is it sideboard, equipped with drivers, can create sound anywhere near to the intended recording.

This, I'll admit, must be due to my lack of audio-engineering training.

I'd consider to rearrange them perhaps as an chimney mantel piece?
Alas, we beheld earlier, they not quite flame resistant... 😕

Ok, just flummoxed...🤔 🤭
Michélle 🇿🇦
Perhaps I detect sour-grapes 🍇 🤢 as these are very hard to find??  Believing  that make's me feel as though I made the proper choice. 🏆🏅😉
@isochronism

Naaa... no blame - I say... so long such oversized 'babies' wouldn't be taking up residence in MY living space! 😘
🤗
Michélle 🇿🇦
@sonicbeauty

Why do I immediately think ET 👽?!? 🤔

Thanks for the thought 💭 - alas one more 'objet trop extraordinaire'... 😏

Interesting, in as much as it looks like a BOSE 901 VI update --- of sorts? 😉

Michélle 🇿🇦
Michelle, You are fully correct 🎯 I have only myself to blame, and clearly can see the elephants in the room 🐘🐘 it is a joy to get each other's take on these matters along the way (and personalities) of which is the equipment. At the end of that line, the soul is the goal. 🔉🔉 In appreciation of your well-wishes to home them soon, I also hope to do a system page.🤞🏻It's nice to see the environments where the music is enjoyed. 🛋☕️ You'll find your's and at the opposite end of the scale as mine. 😄
The Davone Ray-S are very pleasing to look at, Actually soothing in a refined way. Real wood, and a very organic way with music, always smooth yet can fill a large space with terrific imaging. Great comments everywhere on those very special loudspeakers.

Now => Extraordinary, no?! Really 🥰
Am not beyond to, um, embrace extraordinary, see? 😉
And they're YOUR (very OWN) babies, not your wifes - please note the difference, eh? 😊

I'm somehow pretty sure your wife, former or otherwise, had sweet funny Adams to do with their 'conception', no? 🤭

So my very best wishes for them, to find a happy new place! Soon. 👍
Best,
Michélle 🇿🇦
Just a BIT ugly? Those are your babies?Now you'd be insulting my Wife as if her offspring would be homely. But of course, I have no Wife since I'm allowed these speakers. Plus, she'd be insulting ME for choosing such ugly ones! You see Michelle, we both are losing this battle together. 😂 Isn't this fun!!!! 😜
@isochronism
Let me rephrase, it sounds so unkind me having said that.
And your restating it, makes me feel sad to read.
So, no, not ugly, just a bit, um, extraordinary perhaps? 🤔
I'm mean those are your babies, no?
So, I beg your indulgence for my 'ugly' word.
Yeah, we learn as we go. Um. 🙄
Sorry for that dear.
Michélle 🇿🇦

Perhaps, ugly as sin - no beauty contest.  My idea is that they will sound good and one can alway's close their eyes.                                Perfect for a man-cave ora caveman? 🐒
Post removed
@isochronism
Well said, - ugly as sin - but well balanced, no?
Speaker are practically always the first noted (visually) - warts an' all.
On the other hand, reversing your yin - yang setup wouldn’t really work, now wouldn't it?

So... no beauty contest, eh?
Hopefully, some day soon enjoyed again in your (new) man-cave?
👍🤣

Michélle 🇩🇪 🇿🇦 ✔️

My two pairs of amplifiers (45 & 300B) are the Yin, and my speakers represent the Yang. So I try to be balanced (but RCA).     Of course I yam what I yam. 💪🏻 ⚓️
The long and the short of it?
"de gustibus non disputare"

In other words, there seems a strong indication that chromosomes and hormones are at work, in all of this. 💃
I rest my case. 😊
Michélle 🇩🇪💭💐
Michelle, your post still has me laughing!!! Of course,  not so funny if they were mine. 🤣
Yes, the burnt 4550 (2-15) bottom cab. Could be a case of Domestic Arson. A woman's home is her Castle. Yes Dear! 🤕
@isochronism

Would maybe those be what you are referring to?!?
https://www.google.com/search?q=JBL+4550&client=ms-android-huawei-rev1&prmd=sivn&sxsrf=A...

I'll stay with my statement... 🔥 maybe one way to handle those items? 🤔
Just crossed my mind... so much more to express , but will more better hold my tongue 😝
💭...
Michélle 🇩🇪
justmetoo, Unfortunatly (for me) my speakers have been long out of use as I've been looking to move to a larger place to house them properly, hence I regrettable offer no system page. YouTube "JBL 4550"(375/075:4550) those are identical to mine. Model 4676-a. Pro Series. I'm sure you'd enjoy giving them a visit, just not marriage to them!! Your statement "I wouldn't have them in MY living room" gave me a very excellent laugh as I can imagine many husbands hearing that exact response. 😩
@shahram

I agree, your speakers do look fine in your setting. 🙂
And thanks for sharing your pictures. 👍
Michélle 🇿🇦
Just goes to show that everyone's tastes are different! I just love how the Spendor D7 looks in my system. I love the clean lines and walnut wood look. Plus they are pretty small and dont impose much on the room.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/FMGxinTW6jHENYWp9
@shahram

Sorry too, um, retro - or maybe not enough retro for my liking?
They will sound nice as you say - as do so many...
In fact these soet of 'long boxes' ⚰, they remind me of my early German aquistion of a pair of ELACs.
Those had also good test results, but of course for recommended 'Einsteiger' hifi.
I'm sure these Spendor D series will be superior, by how much, who knows?

In any case, those plain Englophile designs are too 70s, never mind 80s... to my likings.
I then had a pair of AR7s, which I really did like (at the time).
Alas, - 'times they are a changing...' eh?
Michélle 🇿🇦
Spendor D series if you like mid-century modern with real wood veneers! The D9 is the top of the line around $9k.
@isochronism

Hm, makes me wonder... are you trying for first price in fuglyness? 🤔
Maybe you just kidding?
Not posting your system though, might be a clue,- that you mean it.
Now a girl could always be cajoled to part take in some blind(folded) testing in an audio-den, no? 🤔😊
So long its not my living room - it be just beholding odd stuff.
I've seen my share, without making any noises. Seriously 😊

Michélle 🇿🇦
"I wouldn't have them in MY living room" Michelle, you would hate the look of my speakers more than any in the world.            "You wouldn't be sitting in MY sweet spot"
Post removed
@middlemass

Eish! Those items look like tombstone slabs awaiting inscription. 👀 👻💭

I wouldn’t have them in MY living room, however marvelous they’d sound.

Sorry, but sincd you asked... 😕

Michélle 🇿🇦
What a waste  of time..if looks are important research,google whatever !!
If they don't sound like tin cans buy em. It's all personal,rather futile trying to tell someone what to like, Emojis aside...

Cheers

I always found the Acoustat Model Sixes to be very nice looking and unobtrusive. Could never understand why a succession of ladies vehemently disagreed.
