Hot Tuna "S/T"

This is their lp on RCA recorded live at the New Orleans House, Berkeley.

This my friends is an absolute reference recording! It's so good, that in fact, I have an early "light weight" pressing and a later heavy pressing, they both SHINE!

There is not one other lp in my collection that totally breaks free of my speakers and actually starts to "wrap around" the side walls.

If you don't have it, seek it out. It will be well worth it!

I saw Jorma play live right when Blue Country Heart came out. I picked it up at a CD vendor at the MerleFest in N Wilkesboro, NC back in 01 or 02 or so. He is really an amazing acoustic picker. I heard he has stopped playing electric and only picks acoustic any more. Truly a great guitarist.

Fjn04, Too Hot To Handle is better than any so called audiophile record I have and Jorma's playing is nothing less than phenomenal. I also agree that blue country heart is also superbly recorded. I'd like to pick up something more recent but honestly, I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the re-issues.

Another LP to watch out for if you don't already have it is "Hot Tuna- Final Vinyl" on the Grunt label. Mine has the Kendun mastering mark on the run out, and as many of you know, some feel the Kendun mastered Rumors by Fleetwood Mac is the one to have. Songs include "Hesitation Blues", "Hot Jelly Roll Blues", and "Candy Man".

"Blue Country Heart" by Jorma Kaukonen is great bluegrass music. I bought the SACD as I remember him from the Airplane's early days. Getting it was an impulse, but now it has steady rotation at my house.

One of my favorites. I did not like like the original transfer to CD at all. Same can be said for Blows Against the Empire and Manhole.
My friend just brought over a CD from that same show titled live at the Berkeley House. This has tracks not heard on the first album. A lot of songs that ended up on the Burgers album are here. This CD has an excellent mix. Clean as heck. I would like to see this show complete in a box set.

I have had the CD version of this for many years and still listen to it on a regular basis. The sound is good, but it is somewhat marred by tape hiss. Great music though.

I just picked up a Jorma Koukenan Too Hot To Handle LP at my local record shop. It says Mark Levinson recording studio on the back of the record. I will have to give it a listen. The only other Jorma I have is with the Airplane, so this should be interesting. Thanks for the Hot tip on the TUNA record.

Wino...S/T means "self-titled", so this album is Hot Tuna-"Hot Tuna".

Havent played this in awhile,but definitely agree it is a great sounding lp. I used to use " Hesitation Blues " as a reference and to show off my system back in the day. Have to dig it out and give it a spin! Never seen it referred to as S/T.

I've been a Hot Tuna fan since my teens. Haven't heard them in a long while. Thanks for the reminder. I have all of their albums on vinyl. I'll need to dig a few out.
