High Fidelity Cables CT-1designed by Rick Schultz

In December 2011,I wrote that High Fidelity cables led by cable designer Rick Schultz was putting together a new cable. The cable came to market as CT-1.The CT-1 has FINALLY made it into my system!I had obtained a version of the prototype that Rick had been working on.It blew my previous reference Genesis by Virtual Dynamics.I thought I had finally found my end with this cable. This prototype delivered to my ears "Nirvana".Could I be at the end of my quest for the ultimate sound?
No. I received two pairs of CT-1 to replace my prototypes. They went into the system this past Friday.Unable to dedicate time until Sunday listening,I stole a few moments, ducking away from company with anticipation. My guest could tell even with the music set for"ambiance"something was intriguing and I was in for a treat!
The experience:
First off,CT-1 was very user friendly.Installation was simple;the cable is very nice and light. The female RCA fit beautifully unlike any I had found in other cable. It was secure and reliable. It seemed much thought was dedicated to developing a designer fit to an aesthetically stunning RCA connector.Install entailed a few wiggles to ensure what seemed like a compression fit on my RCA.
It was 2-3 hrs. for the 1st step of break in to be complete. At that point I had something different!Today, although they only have 10-12 hrs. on them,I can`t put into words how much my system has transformed.Believe me,I loved my prototypes.However....there is simply no comparision.
The clarity and sound is so natural.
The soundstage is like nothing I ever heard.Resoulution is breathtaking and inner detail is simply hard to believe possible.
The sound has transended and now it simply does not seem as thought I have speakers.
My system is musicians playing music.
I am told with time they will improve and I trust that as it was revealed with the prototypes.I wanted to share my thoughts with you that now.
Unequivocally,a testament to High Fidelity,as the name declares.
High Fidelity Cables for me,the last word on it,after 12 hours!
Truly Amazing

Interesting how this very long thread is really based on comments from about 5-6 people.

So, I will try to add some variance.

I just purchased a used CT-1U Digital cable.

First impression:
It has a lean sound compared to the HiDiamond Reference cable. The HiDiamond cable is a Balanced XLR cable while the Hi Fidelity is RCA.

So, I am not sure how long it will take for this "used" cable to hit its stride, but I really hope it gets better.
Lak, I will put it on my cable cooker when I return to work. I guess I expected more from this used cable with all the acclaim.
Ok, so right now I am playing my direct stream. Connected it to it is a HiDiamond Ref XLR and also the coax High Fidelity CT-1U digital. There is virtually NO difference when I toggle back and forth.
That is, both of these cables are digital. The source is from my Bryston BDP2

I  now have 8 of MC-0.5's

There are 2 each on my 3 dedicated circuits.

Extra 1 on my PS Audio P-10

And 1 on the outlet strip for my Cable modem, router, switcher, and the 8 way powered connector that my house RG6 cables are attached.

68Pete, Sorry it took a while to respond, I had some problems.

Anyway, I did try the Mc.05 plugged into my PS Audio P-10 for a while, but I think there is more effect with plugging them in to the dedicated outlet that the P-10 is plugged in.

When I was installing my 3 dedicated lines I used a quad box for each line with top of the line Furutech outlets and with Oyaide covers. This allows me now to use 3 of the MC.05 on each dedicated line. (I used to use the Nordost QV2's). The 10th MC.05 is plugged into the strip outlet for my Cable modem, router switcher etc.

The first place I  noticed big improvement was on my 85" UHD Samsung LED. Awesome picture!

Now days later, listening to my stereo there is such depth in the sound quality that I'm playing some tracks that I haven't listened to in years. I think it took longer on the Audio because of the heavier gauge wiring I used on my lines (10 gauge). But, now everything is very nice...

Awesome product!

I just purchased some of the Stabilant 22 that has been recommended . Finding 99% Isopropyl is not an easy task but I was able to find it on Ebay. The 99% would seem to evaporate quickly leaving only the Stabilant 22.

Mixing it seems to be the way to get the solution to flow into the connectors. However, what is the recommended ratio?

jmcgrogan2, Thanks for the help. The instructions that came with it suggests 3:1.

I'm just thinking that applying it straight may waste too much of the product. I intend to use it a lot throughout my system.

calloway, did you apply it straight or did you mix it?

I just wish he would come out with a interconnect balanced version adapter. Or perhaps an adapter for speaker spades and/or banana's.

ddraudt,

No offense, but your pretty close to needing help. Of course in this hobby perhaps we all need it.

Just curious, how much have you spent on all your High Fidelity equipment?

Well I just ordered 4 more of the MC-0.5s. That will make a total of 12 spread over my 3 dedicated circuits.

rlawry,

I have the AQ adapter. The outlets are too close together to fit 3 plugs. Best you can use with it is 2.

I too have noticed that getting the MC-0.5s to the outlet is the best way to go. I tried running a power cord to a Quad box but I noticed I lost some of the resolution. On Video you could really tell, the image was not quite as "jump out at you" as before on my 85"UHD Samsung.

Luckily, when I ran my 3 dedicated lines using 10 gauge wire, I installed a quad and a duplex on each line. Of course all outlets are the Furutech GTX-R with the Oyaide outlet covers. (overkill perhaps, but I will not have to change anything in the future).

Perhaps, but the outlets still maybe too close together its hard to tell.

Try this one.

68pete, At the moment, with just about 20 hours on the extra MC 0.5's being plugged in I would say no. I think the biggest bump was the intial set. But, perhaps with more hours on them it will improve.

68pete, Thank you, your welcome.

knghifi,

I think the initial 4 had the most impact. Probably because that first set introduced the magnetism. So, if that was a 9 out of 10 the next set of 4 was another 5 and the last set perhaps 3.

lak, and rlawry,

As long as I can keep paying for the new equipment with selling off my old stuff I am ok. But...sooner or later...

If its the one I just researched. It seems the size would prevent the use of the other outlet in a duplex outlet.
rlawry, I still think the closer you can get the MC-0.5s to the wall the better they perform. Just try (3) MC- 0.5s with one of those orange 3 way taps from a Home Improvement store that plug right into the wall outlet.

Correction:

Does anyone know when High Fidelity will release a XLR version adapter?

Anyone know when the High Fidelity XL version of the adapters will be available?

Thanks Pete for the XLR adapter update. I'll be waiting...

I was fortunate enough to have the hindsight when I installed my 3 dedicated lines using 10 gauge wire to also install 2 sets of dual duplex Furutech's on each line. But, even with that I am still using a 3 way plug / adapter to add a few more on one line.

Thanks for the quick replies here is a little more info for my question.

I have 3 dedicated circuits, one for my digital that goes to a PS Audio P10 Power Plant. One that powers my JL Audio subs and the last one for my Pass Labs Amp.

I think, that loading up the one line to the PS Power Plant for the digital with the MC-05s (9 of them) seems to be the best. The Amp line now has just (3 of them) MC-05's and the subs line have none.

I am adding the MC-05's at the wall not at the PS Power Plant.

Do you find more improvement with the MC 05 when used on Digital or on Amps?

68pete,

Nice to know another audiogonner has the P-10. No, I have not tried the MC-05’s plugged into the P10. I have 9 of them plugged into the outlet that the P10 is plugged into. That may be something for me to try though.

From the P10 I am using the CPT 300 balanced power cord into my DIY power strip. From there I have all of my Cerious Technologies Graphene Extremes plugged into the strip for my front end components. I will add to this that when I plugged a few MC-05's into this power strip the sound became louder but it lost it's purity, so I put them back at the wall outlet(s). I wonder if the balanced power did this?

I am interested in your findings with the Hemisphere vs the P10.

68pete,

I just tried 6 of the MC-05’s in my PS Audio P10 for a day. I still have 3 at the wall outlet. The sound again got a little louder but more up front. In comparison to having those six added at the wall that resulted in the sound stage going back again. Which is correct? I don’t know. The video may make the difference. I’m going to try again while viewing my 85" UHD Samsung.

A thing I noticed. Once you move the MC-05’s it may take several hours to get the full result. To play it safe, I’ll’ give them 24 hours at each location.

tbg, mentioned about vibration control with the MC-05’s. I may try adding some teflon tape (plumbers tape) around the MC-05’s to see if that has any affect.

Well I am convinced that the best approach is still to load up the MC-05’s at the wall outlet than at the P-10. The sound is much purer and the video is the sharpest and with a much more natural appearance.

Funny, I thought that placing the MC-05's at the P10 it would have been closer to the source, but no, keep them at the wall!

Personally, I don't own the Hemisphere. But I do own 12 MC-.05's. In my opinion I think adding the MC-.05's at the wall is the best way and it could positives gained before the Hemisphere.

68pete,

I have 3 dedicated lines.

I have 9 MC 05's on my digital equipment, 6 on my Amp/Preamp line and 1 on my subwoofers line.

ozzy

I owned several of the Nordost QV2's unfortunately not at the same time as the HF MC-05's. The Nordost QV2's did something but I eventually sold them all.
The HF MC-.05's in my opinion, improve things much more and I don't intend to sell them. (unless something better comes a long).

I also thought that my system sounded better with the MC-05’s after removing the P-10. Too bad, nice looking unit.
I now have the Core Power Tech 300 & 1800 balanced transformers plugged into my 3 dedicated lines.
And I also have 16 MC-05’s plugged into these 3 dedicated outlets (at the wall only).
