HELP Dahlquist afficionados needed.........

Greetings

First...
thank you, for reading and possible commenting on this post.

I'm really grateful for so many of the expert opinions that so many Audiogoner's share with me, on my quest for musical truth/enjoyment and fun.

My system's starting to get really good now thank to many of you!

I'm on a vintage speaker jag at the present...

I have acquired some Dahlquist DQM-5, 2 way speakers with German brand, Magnat drivers, and they are feakin fun, dynamic and detailed. I would consider them state of the art for a two way. They would shame the B&W 602 series 3 speaker I had,and they are a two way favorite (that don't break the bank)

So,this got me looking into other Dahlquist speakers...

Here's my question...

Will the DQ-20's sound OK only 12" away from a back wall? they would not be close to the side walls...

I've never had these, or heard them,I can get some local, reasonable through shmegs list.

I don't want to waste my time and money, if they won't sound OK, 12" away from the back wall.

My room is 11X22 and the 22' wall is where the speakers will be,can't have it any other way...

(with 11' ceilings, old home..100 years old, circa 1908)

Any comments welcome.

Thanks.

I have my DQ-20's about 35" from the back wall just because I have the room but the owner's manual says they should be "at least a foot from any wall." So it seem's they should work OK. They are approx. 12" deep so you would need to take that into account when fitting them into your room.

I have owned mine for about a year and a half and have thought about getting newer speakers but these sound so good that I'm can't bring my self to sell them. I'm using Audible Illusions amps and preamp and they sound fantastic with well recorded cd's.

When I first bought them I set them on the carpet and fired them up but they sounded kind of muffled. I was disappointed but then I put spikes on them (they have inserts for them)and it made a huge difference. They are not really very heavy for their size so it seems to help to get them solidly connected to the floor.

I had the DQ-20i's for several years. They were NMT 15 inches away from the back wall in a room that was 13 feet by 18 feet and they were centered on the shorter wall. That positioning resulted in a highly enjoyable musical presentation. I loved those speakers. But I eventually upgraded to Alon IVs, which gave me much of the Dahlquist sound but with much better bass response and a much better midrange.
