hi chucky, i've not heard such effectiveness for items in yr post. but there is something about "homegrown antistatic treatment..." on www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/tweak.html for CD's. maybe you'd like check that out before you spend yr hardearned cash at the hifi accessory dealer's. hope this help. phil.
Yes I use anti stat spray, heard about it from another audiophile. 9.00 for a quart spray bottle from Mcmastercar.com. As good as the Nordost for a lot less. The guy I learned it from reccommended the Antistat and cleaning all connections with Chemstronics heavy duty contact cleaner. It made an unbelievable diffrence in my system.
I sprayed my cables with "Gruv Glide" a stereophile recommended accessory. Originally made to completely kill static and enhance sound on records, I sprated my kimber cables and cardas cables with it, just to see what would happen. The cables looked better, and I couldn't believe it but my system sounded better too! Several of the record, cartridge vendors in stereophile sell gruv glide, about $22 per unit but it treats about 150 lp's + your cables, so it's a real bargain. Good Luck, hope this helps - Bennett
I couldn't believe it, but the "Gruv Glide" really works well. My cables look great and I can hear the difference too. I tried static guard and it didn't work nearly as well.
I am not recommending you do this. But one tweak in this area is to remove the outer jacket from certain cables. These cables include Straightwire and Wireworld where a cheap plastic outer provides protection from the cable being stomped on. The improvement in sound is apparently largely due to the fact that the cheap plastic outer is a source of electrostatic problems. I have heard jacketed versus unjacketed versions of the same cable and the improvement is a much smoother sound. With jacket on, the sound has an artificial crispness to transients.
MANY MANUFACTURERS USE THE STUFF AT THE LAS VEGAS CES. EXTREMELY DRY WEATHER CONDITIONS COUPLED WITH HIGH TRAFFIC ON NYLON RUGS MAKES FOR TONS OF ELECTROSTATIC ENERGY. MEADOWLARK BLEW THE J-FETS OUT OF THEIR DAC AT THE 97 SHOW WITH A STATIC ELECTRIC DISCHARGE. OUR EXPERIENCE IS THAT THE ANTI STATIC SPRAYS YOU CAN BUY AT THE DRUG STORES - DESIGNED TO KEEP STATIC CHARGES OFF OF CLOTHES - DOES JUST FINE AND IS VERY INEXPENSIVE. THE PROBLEM IS ALWAYS WORSE IN DRY SURROUNDING ESPECIALLY DURING HEATING SEASON. IF THE STUFF WON'T HARM YOUR WIFE'S CLOTHING, IT IS NOT GOING TO HARM YOUR CABLE. DEPENDING ON ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS THIS TREATMENT CAN BE VERY BENEFICIAL BOTH FOR EQUIPMENT SAFETY AND SONIC IMPROVEMENT.
