Has anybody heard a decompression as good as this?

Hi,

I'm a newbie and I've discovered the nightmare of compression. Anyway, while coming home from work I heard a five minute interview that blew me away. Somewhere around minute 2 they give a demo of using probability theory to recreate a song from the most basic harmonics.

Here's the link: www.npr.org/templates/player/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=127088641&m=127088714

Has anybody heard of this being implemented in any equipment?

Thanks for sharing.

The concept is similar to what has been done in the imaging industry over a decade ago, digital photos enlarged several hundred times (today probably several thousand times) thru advanced algorithm and resampling methods. Of course, nothing beats capturing them at the right resolution from the beginning.

As for sound or music, would be interesing to hear a full track recreated mathematically from an "incomplete" sample.
