Hadcock on VPI Aries?

Any thoughts on whether the Hadcock arms would mate well with a VPI Aries tables? Or am I better off sticking with JMW arms? If the Hadcock arms would be a good match, is there any preference between the 228 and 242 arms?

Many thanks.

I just installed a Hadcock 242 on my Aries 2 (replacing the JMW10 that came with it). Works like a charm: more musical and great synergy with my MusicMaker 3 cartridge and Graham Slee Phone Pre. It did require drilling out the VPI armboard to accomodate the Hadcock. Good luck.

I think the Hadcock's, because they are semi-unipivots, are better suitable for non-suspended decks. So from that standpoint the Aries is perfect.

I think its more a question of what type of cartridge do you own. The Hadcock needs a high compliance cartridge to do its magic. Most MC's are low or medium compliance.

Then there's another question: Do you really think the Hadcock is a better arm than the JMW? I assume that's what's on your Aries now?

Enjoy,
Bob

That is categorically untrue and a popular misconception regarding Hadcock tonearms. The effective tonearm masses of the 242 and 228 are 11.4 grams and 9.1 grams respectively. These tonearms work extremely well with virtually any cartridge. I am currently using both a Zyx Airy 3 and a Music Maker 3 in a 242. Both track flawlessly and sound superb.
Thank you.

Disclaimer for all concerned- I sell Hadcock tonearms.
