Great Customer Service From Simaudio

I just wanted to share with everyone a great experience I had with Simaudio and their moon products.  I purchased a 280d dac with the mind option.  This is not an uber expensive piece of equipment -- $2800 brand new (not cheap but not one of those $50,000+ pieces of equipment).  It worked great for the first year, but after about a year, I had some difficulty with playing Tidal through the mind unit.  Rather than fobbing it off on Tidal and claiming the problem resided with Tidal, Simaudio sent me a new 280d with no questions asked.  When the new product had some difficulties again with Tidal, Simaudio's owner and lead engineer emailed me and called me and were very responsive in trying to understand the issue and fix it.  As we were emailing, Simaudio offered me numerous options, including refunding my money in total.  Simaudio, through the owner Costa, said it would refund my money, or it would send Simaudio's  lead engineer out to my house to see if he could solve the problem (they weren't sure if the problem was on their end, my internet or Tidal), or they would give me a great discount on an upgrade, or if I had any other suggestions as to how to resolve the problem they would work with me to make me happy.  The owner, Costa, and the lead engineer were in town for Music Matters at Listen Up (where I bought the 280d) and they came to my house to trouble shoot the problem and took me out for dinner and we talked audio equipment and the audio industry all night.  Furthermore, Listen Up also offered to give me a refund with no questions asked when the problem arose and also offered other solutions and were very helpful and supportive.  Anyway, for anyone considering buying from Simaudio, know that they have some of the best, if not the best, customer service in the industry, and Listen Up also really stands by their products to make their customers happy.  I've never had someone offer me a full refund on a product that developed an issue more than a year after it was sold and I've never had one of the owners get on the phone numerous times and come to my house to try and trouble shoot a problem for a piece of equipment like this.  Terrific folks to deal with.  I still enjoy seeing Costa every year at Music Matters and RMAF: he is a pleasure to deal with and very knowledgeable and just a terrific person (as well as making some amazing products).   Anyway, just wanted to share this experience with anyone considering buying a Simaudio product.

That's amazing service & as a potential future SimAudio owner great to know...
I own a 870a Sim amp and just love it...never had a problem but good to know if one comes up.  Thanks for sharing!
Nice to hear. I have been treated very well by SimAudio also. I did not have any problems with my moon 300d, I just call and talked to the factory about it and they were very responsive and not trying to push anything on me. They were very respectful. Thanks for posting.

Thank You - gasherbaum

for sharing your customer service story. It is imperative to post both positive and negative experiences when dealing with these companies/manufacturers.  I would not mind auditioning Simaudio separates as well as integrated amps.

Happy Listening!

Hi Jafant
Right now I have Theata Pearl transport by a Audioquest VDM5 solid silver coax to a Simaudio Moon 300d dac by VanDenHul The First ic to a Lightspeed Attenuator by Dueland DCA16 ic to a Burson AB160R buffer by VanDenHul The First ic to a Belles Reference 150A V2 amp by PS Audio Reference speaker cables to Thiel 2.4's. Power cables are all Shunyata Sidewinder VTX except my amp is a Wireworld Siver Electra.
Now I love tubes. I have tried to get as close as I could and still enjoy the goods of solid state. My system transports me to where ever the music takes me. That is a pretty nice feeling.
@gasherbaum Great posting! As previously mentioned, we need to thank and trumpet the great manufacturer experiences we have as well as warn others of more unfortunate occurrences. Glad your’s was the former!
I don't have any support anecdotes to share about Simaudio, despite having owned three of their amps, three DACs and a CD player. That's because I've never had an issue with any of their gear despite many, many hours of use. Great products. Great company.
SFAR I concur -- Simaudio's gear is well built and sounds great.  This was more of a problem with the connection to Tidal, as it turned out.  But Simaudio also does an amazing job on those rare occasions when things don't work perfectly.  Great products and a Great company to be sure.
I've had good experience with Simaudio when a piece of equipment developed a fault. Other companies that also were excellent to deal with have been Pass and Bryston.

I have often wondered if Simaudio continued to support the drives/transports/laser assembly for their CD players/

Happy Listening!

Yes they do I just buught their 260DT transport (due to arrive in July) the dealer gave 10 years (!) warranty .

Much Thanks! itzhak1969

I have only auditioned the Supernova cd player over 10 years ago.

Happy Listening!

I’ve had similar great experiences with Costa and Costa.
Several years ago, I purchased a new Neo 260D CD transport. I already had a Bryston DAC which I thought might be better than the $1000 upgrade board.

When I received the unit from a Florida Dealer, it was quite obviously a demo or used Transport.  The Dealer is no longer a Simaudio Dealer after this incident.

Costa sent me a brand new 260D and included the $1000 DAC card.
He said I might find it better than my Bryston. It BLEW it away, so I sold it.
I mentioned to Costa I was interested in their 700i Integrated Amp to Drive my Focal Sopra 2 speakers. A few months later he called me to say he had a mint 10 condition unit I might like in silver which was my first choice.
I had it in my home the following week.

Kudos !!!
Great People, Great equipment !!!

PS:  the 700i is just awesome for driving Sopra’s.

@gasherbaum

did these Simaudio folks ever fix the issue? Was that dinner including drinks?
If you’re referring to the Florida Dealer, last I heard they were still open, but Costa told me they aren’t a Simaudio Moon Dealer anymore.
Hi canibefrank,
yes, dinner included drinks.  Yes, they did fix the problem with their new Mind 2 streamers, including the newer 280d's.
