Got a melody running around in your head?

I seem to always have my portable system, you know that soft gooey thing between your ears, running. There is a melody that will keep for a bit, and then I move on to something else. Right now, I hear that sweet little piano riff from the 3rd cut of Water's "Amused to Death." How about you?

I usually recall some music I really do like (mostly jazz). However, often I'd find some cheezy top-40 AM radio tune or tacky movie theme from decades ago repeating in my headspace over and over and over and ...

But I've been partially cured in the last few months. During this time, various tunes from Sinatra's "Come Fly With Me" CD have displaced most of the top-40 and movie trash intrusions. It's not what I usually chose to listen to, but, for me, that's a significant improvement
"Lola is her name," sung in the background, accompanied by images of a cute teen age girl gyrating to keep her hula hoop aloft.

This began as a harmless television commercial for Levi Strauss, but now her image and tune are stuck in my head, and have been for nearly two months.
Brulee: There is no cure. Hope that you don't start resenting small children with "ring" curls as I have in the past (before I got a grip:-). Why coudn't it have been "Over the Rainbow" which I could easily listen to for a lifetime?
Thanks a lot Dekay. Now I've got it going round and round in my head. If you find a cure please get hold of me immediately! HELP!
"is there gas in the car? yes there's gas in the car.. I think the people down the hall know who we are.."

"driving like a fool out to Hackensack, drinkin his dinner from a paper sack, he say 'I gotta see a joker and I'll be right back'"

"Any man left on the Rio Grande is the king of the world, as far as I know..

Did you grow up in the 70's? can you say Becker-Fagen?
"Lucky and Unhappy" from Air's 10000 Hz Legend. And it was yesterday morning, i was listening in my car on a way to work...Simply Beautiful.
Most people think
great god will come from the sky

take away everything
and make everybody feel high

but if you know what life is worth
you will look for yours on earth

and soon you'll see the light
to stand up for your rights

"On the Good Ship Lollipop", complete with tap dancing effects. It has been with me for the past forty plus years and I can only pray that it does not exist on the "other side".
That's the way
a-huh a-huh
I like it

That's the way

Hey, You asked:~)

Sadness came to my room,
Gave me rot gut whiskey
and lit a cigarette.
Danced around and said
Are we having fun yet?

Greg Brown

Listened to it yesterday and it's still there.

Sincerely, I remain
Wow, 64 Dodge, a great sound. I have that on 180 gram vinyl...Greg brown is very talanted. You know how the am radio plays songs until you puke or turn it off? Right now every morning its "Drowin" This song is by, the backstreet boys but I just found that out....so here for about 4 weeks I've been hummin that song thinking, this group can really sing...then I find out who is singing it and I'm like....how could I possibly like something by that group? My brain must be dying....oh, well, I still catch myself humming the stupid song....that's my morning confession....oh god, there's that song again.....where's the off button?
My papy said "Son your gunna drive me to drinkin if you don't stop drivin that hot rod Lincoln"
hehe!
I love this steam of consciousness music thread!
come on, guys (and gals) let's see how far we can go.

Yo soy un hombre sincero
de donde crece la palma
y antes de morirme quiero
cantar nis verso del alama

no me pongas en lo oscuro
a morir como un traidor
yo soy bueno y como bueno
morire de cara al sol

Sam Stone
©John Prine

Sam Stone came home,
To his wife and family
After serving in the conflict overseas.
And the time that he served,
Had shattered all his nerves,
And left a little shrapnel in his knee.
But the morphine eased the pain,
And the grass grew round his brain,
And gave him all the confidence he lacked,
With a Purple Heart and a monkey on his back.

Chorus:
There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes,
Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don't stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.
Mmm....

Sam Stone's welcome home
Didn't last too long.
He went to work when he'd spent his last dime
And Sammy took to stealing
When he got that empty feeling
For a hundred dollar habit without overtime.
And the gold rolled through his veins
Like a thousand railroad trains,
And eased his mind in the hours that he chose,
While the kids ran around wearin' other peoples' clothes...

Repeat Chorus:

Sam Stone was alone
When he popped his last balloon
Climbing walls while sitting in a chair
Well, he played his last request
While the room smelled just like death
With an overdose hovering in the air
But life had lost its fun
And there was nothing to be done
But trade his house that he bought on the G. I. Bill
For a flag draped casket on a local heroes' hill.

Repeat Chorus
You now Melody too, she cheated on me with a girl named Chastity, or was it Faith, I can't keep track anymore :)

But I keep singing "love" by Paul Simon and " '64 Dodge" by Greg Brown, very queitly- I don't even hear it sometimes though I know its there.
hail to the bus driver, bus driver, bus driver
haul to the bus driver, bus driver man
he drinks and he cusses, and crashes our buses
haul to the bus driver, bus driver, bus driver
haul to the bus driver, bus driver man

you did ask...
