I've heard of them! Just from What Hifi review. Went to their website to see if there's a dealer close to me so I could audition these Fyne speakers. Not available in the US yet. Bummer as I'm in the market for new speakers. My Paradigms that I bought in 1988 are finally giving up the ghost.

Yes, some people from Tannoy split off and created it in Scotland somewhere, with local government development support, on the occasion of one of the times that Tannoy changed hands due to corporate/conglomerate horse-trading. |
If they get distribution in the US I would really like to try them out. Tannoys are nearly non-existant in the US. I live in the tri-state area and had a lot of trouble tracking down a Tannoy dealer. Even then it turned out to be by appointment only.
It would be nice to be able to order them online with a trial period. |
Don't know why a company such as Tannoy ignores the US which I think is a substantial market. I too had trouble locating a dealer. Growing up in SE Asia, my dad had Tannoys at home.
I emailed Fyne audio enquiring about their speakers a while back, but radio-silence. I don't get it. |

They are now distributed by The Sound Organisation in Dallas who also distribute Rega, and others. There are only a few dealers so far, we, Gene Rubin Audio being one of them.

FYNE Audio 300 and 500 range are now on display at "Audio Geeks" in San Antonio. With Sound Organisation just up the road in Dallas, we can have other models delivered in very short order. |
I bought a pair of Fyne F501 drone Gene Rubin in CA and I am very happy with them. I switched from Magnepan because I need an overall cohesive speaker from high to low and Fyne definitely do that very well. If I can afford the 703, I will not hesitate for a second to buy them. They are just out of my price range. I also noticed they also have 502 special edition that borrow a lot if the 700 series with a lower price tag. Good luck!

I talked to Gene today and I have decided to go a different direction from the Magnepans "little ribbons", Tekton Lores, and Zu Omens. I am going to go with the Fyne F501. Will take a little more money but from the demos I heard they sound great even on Youtube. I can see why they are award winners. I have never been a huge base guy, but the base with these serves as the depth and it comes out in the songs. It doesn't dominate. |

Look up the reviews on Youtube. One English guy has this speaker compared to several others and he mentioned what I suspected from the Soundstage review. The Sounstage guy did a "Wow, gee whiz look what I got" review but it wasn't very thorough in that he only paired it with a Marantz warm receiver also just listened near field and in addition to not trying it with several other amps and trying speaker locations on stands, it was just a "I like my new speakers rave review" I think they probably are on the thin, lively side of things and need warm support electronics to sound right. I also noted a titanium tweeter. Personally I prefer fabric tweeters or a well managed EMIT. Metal domes seem to be too shouty for me. Just my taste but when I heard my suspicions confirmed by the Brit reviewer, I decided that it's not a speaker I'd last with but you may conclude something else. |
I recently heard the 502 special edition. Very open clear top end w/plenty of bottom. If you like the Tannoy sound you'll like Fyne. Easy to power you can use a 20 wpc amp. I would look for integrateds and preamps on the warm side to balance out the top end. Luxman 590, Pass, and CJ are a few of the electronics that would pair well w/the 502. Also room size is important. These were made for larger rooms as the bass could overwhelm your listening space. The special edition is built in Scotland. The drivers in the 502SP are the same as in the 16K 702. The 502SP is 5K. |
Check out a review by Small Room Audio on Youtube. I think he's being quite unbiased. Basically he said that the $400 Triangle Borea Bro2 was preferable in his system. Another review said equipment matching was necessary. Code for it needs calm, even dark electronics, mello like a Marantz receiver. |

Brian - How are the 502sp at low volumes? I listened to a pair at a dealer and I really couldn’t get a full idea of how they sound at low level. I though they sounded pretty awesome in the showroom.

I heard the F1-10 (I believe), at the recent Capital Audiofest. It was one of the better speakers I heard at the show--very dynamic and lively without being harsh or lean sounding. I liked it more than I liked the Tannoy speakers I've heard. I like the higher end Tannoy speakers, but, they do have a slight sibilant edginess that the F1's manage to tame. They were being shown with Bryston amplification (not a favorite of mine) so I would really like to hear them with some of my favorite tube amps.
This is something worth seeking out for an audition. I believe that the dealer running the room that featured the F1 line (they had three models at the show) was from New Jersey or Pennsylvania.
