Future of PC Audio

I have to confess that I am just re-hashing an old thread about audio fidelity for laptops. What say you about all of us who commute to work and listen to laptop CD drives - can we ever get SACD or even HDCD for pc without bulky peripheral/external plugins...? Please share your thoughts...
