I would look used for power , turntable and cartridge. Put aside some cash for room treatment ,one of the biggest upgrades i,ve ever done .

The gon is a great place .. Expecially for turntables and cart imo there are some heavyweights here that roll through alot of stuff . I bought my vpi classic 1 from a member here xcountry . Couldnt be more pleased . I have bought all my interconnects used here . Just reach out and message the sellers . I can say getting in tune with the gear people have had success with those vandys will save you alot of pain and cash ..I personnally wouldnt hesitate to buy from an established member here or a cple places . I have got things from music room too they always work deals on there used gear . Stay inside the states imo i have had problems.. You can spend 2k and have a 4k table .. 3500 and get a 5-6 k tube integrated. Jmo .. Treatment my freinds i like gik panels myself they helped me take pics and fill out there form bryan is cool ..

Get the vac spend 3 k on used table and cart , bigger used vandys you will be happy .. That vac is rare to see used . It is a serious company they have hyper esoteric gear . It would be a focal point of a system for an above average joe . I would love to have it . Look for a vpi classic front motor , or a prime if you can swing it . Jmho |
When a rare piece comes up here and is mentioned on the forum it is gone! The forum readers say hhmmm dam i,m buying it( there are some very well off gon readers and a few g is not a big deal to them ).I had a post on cd players someone mentioned a specific Bel Canto ,I hesitated for a day and it was gone.That vac was a great piece and I also almost snagged it myself .This hobby will keep you constantly upgrading until you go broke( unless you are very fortunate in that case you will have 200k in your system lol) or finnally realize it's really about the music and eventually if you still have your sanity you will start to focus on your collection and the listening process. Again i strongly suggest dilligence with your search here it will pay off ,look everyday things revolve here all the time ,i would most certainly buy used gear .You will get so much more in the end if you do your homework ..

The prima luna are nice.(pretty too) I do not want to bust on any dealer there are many good ones ,i was a salesmen for yrs at a brick and mortor back in the day.All i can give is my opinion cotton,and in this hobby of 35plus years the ole "one mans floor is anothers ceiling" could not be more true. the amount of high end gear i saw people off during my time is insane .I came home with so many trade ins and this one."do you know anyone who takes old speakers away ? these things are huge" or "its an old tube thingy!" lmao
People rotate through gear like mad, it’s an obsession to many.Just my opinion but unless ya got the bucks a slightly used tt that was 4k is yours for 2k a 6k plus amp is 2-3 k speakers same thing man. although they are just more difficult to ship ,i would search craigs daily. use tempest it will search any craiglist in america,then go listen and grab them if you like them .I personnally have had the best luck with gon members vs others like highfii shark etc..just me but be warned stay in the U.S i have been burned by customs on returns taking months!!

have to chime in and agree with inna ,in my personal experience cables have made a drastic difference.do i need 5k for a pair? no not for my set up .But i can say i have some bucks in cables.From my tt to phono and to pre ,oh yes!.I run an intergrated to help with the cable issues.and the difference is most noticable. but i would not spend your money there anytime soon if it was me.get the vandys you desire then amp then tt (again a hot subject but get the best tt you can afford cart can be added and upgraded at any time .jmo.
and for goodness sakes treat the room it will help your sound like a component upgrade..

I love my classic 1 front motor . 10" memorial . Do i want to upgrade yes and no . but it will be a pricey upgrade to see a real change to me . It will handle a substantial cartridge imo . Anyone who can genuinely say i dont want to upgrade . In most all situations has more then 10 k in a system used . Its like a herion addict chasing the next high imo.. But with a budget there becomes constraints. Like many have said ,buy used if you do not enjoy it . The type of gear your considering will sell . I enjoy following this thread . Good luck |

I have had quite a few maggies and sold them for a number of yrs . There are imo very few spkrs that can compete with maggies in the proper situation for the bucks . They like power and are 4ohms . I loved my mg3a cj tubes pre and power , biamped with a krell , few other bottom end ss amps also . Pair a planer, tube combo properly with subs imo and your wow factor is thru the roof imo and with a good vinyl rig and ya better get ready it will be impressive to hear and see . Your room may work pretty well ,tympani are big boys .. I can say you will be spending big bks even used to get tube power with big maggies . Opinions opinions but 150 would be the bottom end in a large room .. Cool thing about your setup is they will throw sound in both directions . My current room is too small for big maggies or i would have them ..

Addressing room acoustics ( before or after) is as important as what your choice in equipment will be to accent your room in sound and the bling you seek . The info in this thread is massive and the opinions are many. You are obviously hooked again . Go to the show and listen and listen ( gik will be there too) . Take a rough layout of your room . Let your ears and pocket shape your choices. Some may say bentley, you may perfer a Mercedes in the end. The one thing about this hobby is if you bought a 100k amp , some wont like it ..but do you ? Thats all that matters.
The real question here is how many albums have you bought yet : ).

I painted my room in textured cement block paint , (drywall on 6" thick timber frame), it created almost like a smooth 50 grit sandpaper( it has sand in it, or add it in ) . Then i repainted it with laytex . It looks cool and has a small pebble texture .. but gik changed the game in my med.room . I sent them pics and they helped alot .. bryan i think . I would be hesitant with curtains on one side . Like i said before many companies can print on there panels . Anything you want , thats all you..if i had unlimited money the first call i would make is to a designer, studio eng. to design a room with proper acoustics.then an electrician. So for me i would be seriously considering what and how your new setup and choices will look sound and interact with your b&b..
