EXOGAL Comet or Shitt Yggdrasil DAC

Looking seriously at both. Seem to have similar design, marketing philosophies...Your thoughts and opinions would be appreciated!

Depends on what your listening to.
If your listening is PCM, be it Redbook CD 16/44 or 24/96, DXD, or even DVD-A then go for the Schiit Yggdrasil which is R2R Multibit conversion, the best way to convert PCM.

If you want to download DSD then you have no choice you have to go the Exogal that has delta sigma Bitstream conversion, but the PCM stuff will take a hit.

Quote MoJo Music.
" When a PCM file is played on a DSD or Bit Stream converter, the DAC chip has to convert the PCM to DSD in real time. This is one of the major reasons people claim DSD sounds better than PCM, when in fact, it is just that the chip in most modern single-bit DACs do a poor job of decoding PCM."

There is a lot of information available on the Yggy, less so on the Exogal Comet.

I own both, with the Comet paired to the Ion.

There is some good, though limited discussion over at computer audiophile exogal drops the other shoe

It would be helpful if you can provide more detail about your system, needs, music preferences, etc. etc.

And anything specific regarding DACs in general or each specific model.
For me, and given my system chain....

In short (and with all the caveats such generalizations entail):

The Yggy is slightly 'in my face,' more visceral. And fun!

The Comet-Ion duo get out of the way. Very smooth, clean and easier to live with for longer listening sessions.

Both are enjoyable to my ears and sensibilities. I like both and recommend both.

Thanks for your thoughts. david_ten nudged me to the Comet, smooth, clean and easy to live with.

There is another as Darth Vader has said. The Aqua La Voice is one of the most musically involving dac at under $3k not for the SACD crown, but this is one engaging dac and then there is also the Mytek Brooklyn which offers much more in terms of features then either the Exogel or the Yggy and costs only $2k.
