Soon all brands should come up with toob amp. Why not making some money? Who's next: Krell? Pass? Parasound? I won't wonder if Onkyo, Outlaw or Denon will chip in! |
Emotiva cuts out the middle man. It would be like CJ selling direct. The consumer benefits. Anyone who has compared or owned the equipment knows it offers a good value |
This whole thread is based on "what the owner said", and that's fine, but I've found that what Dan Laufman says is usually the most positive outcome scenario which rarely happens with that company. Most new products they introduce are months/years late. Also just about every single piece of electronics that they've released, that is, a first time DAC, CD player, etc, has had issues, bugs and firmware needs. The only amp they make that has any firmware needed a patch upon release. Dan can give glowing reports, but the final result usually has much less lustre.
Second, this agreement and parting with Bob Carver has been shrouded in mystery from the get go. I am skeptical as to what technology exactly Emotiva managed to buy from Carver, who is obviously an electronics genius and marketing whiz. I really doubt that he sold the best of his stuff to Emotiva, so they could try to outsell him in his own market with blue glowing tube amps.
Also, Andrew Robinson has recently left the employ of Emotiva. Bob Carver left them. TacT left them. Just what is it like to deal with Emotiva that they can sign up all of these heavy hitters, but not keep them? Dan may try to put the best possible spin on Carver's departure, but something smells a little there.
One thing Emotiva can do, though, is lure in the uninitiated with the promise of something for nothing. There's no free lunch, but there's also a sucker born every minute. |

Hot piece? Of course, you will never a wind farm to power it and maybe a water powered condenser to cool it. Also, to sell it will require a five year warranty. Carver designs are known for lack of reliability. |
I got a life. Did the owner say if he's going to hire someone who actually has any electronical knowledge?
During the interim period of taking over and supporting Carver Tube warrantee there wasn't anybody there who could answer basic trouble shooting questions. Phone calls and emails simply went unanswered which left me with a very negative attitude.
Bob Carver Tube amplifiers are hand assemble in the United States. Their support was and still is quick and knowledgable. emotia won't disclose their their manufacture, assembly, and disposal, practices. But hey, they're going to look cool and still be suspiciously low priced.
After my experience, some brief research into this company, and the remarkably loyal, if greatly inexperienced, product owners on the companies forum I would have to strongly agree with Dayglow. I also have a conscience that questions this companies practices which provide such inexpensive products. |

I agree with other threads here that the emotiva products are branded too good to be true for their price. IMO, you get what you pay for, decent sound for a decent price, far from giant killers |

discussion/presentation, the owner said that he and Bob
Carver have been personal friends for decades. He said that
they are still good friends. He spoke of Bob good naturedly
and poked fun at Bob's 'mad scientist' persona, bud gave
glowing kudos to Bob as an amp designer. I believe that
they probably came to some agreement that would allow Bob to
continue making amps. Emotiva probably licensed Bob to
continue making amps. When Bob terminated his agreement
with Emotiva, he started up again and just changed the names
of the amps...they still look the same as before.

Anybody know the difference in design between Bob's new amps and his previous tube amps (Cherry 180 & Black Beauty 305).
Since Emotiva now owns the latter and the intellectual property, what would Bob need to change legally in his new product besides output power.
I'm really asking for speculation or to hear from somebody regarding patent infringement. |

The Emotiva fanboys will have another man-made deity to worship! I foresee an irrational and dangerous audio cult forming but there could be a solution...have all Emotiva owners ear wax removed and have a hearing and mental evaluation administered at the Mayo Clinic(ARC will pay). This would eliminate most of the ridiculous claims...sounds as good as ***** for 1/10 the $$$ BS! |

The owner said that more WAF friendly speakers are forthcoming next year also. He did not say whether or not if they are based on Bob Carver designs.

I can not say I did not see this coming, Emotiva making tube amps and equipment, does not suprise me, I expected this to happen after the acuisition of Bob Carver tube equipment company, now, The question here is, did Emotiva buy Bob Carver speaker company?, I do not believe so, it seems Bob retains this company now, He just released a statement speaker. |
That's going to be a fairly hot piece of equipment and I guess they will need to use an active (read fan) cooling system to circulate the air around the tubes.
Also I don't know if they can offer the same kind of economic pricing that they have for their SS units. |
