Echo/reverb effect DAC to PC USB connection

I'm attempting to connect my s.m.s.l. DAC to my PC using a USB cable. The DAC and the PC are about 20' apart so I purchased an active USB cable. For some reason the audio sounds like it's in an echo chamber or extreme reverb. I tried temporarily moving the DAC closer to the PC using a 4' USB cable and it sounds fine - no echo. Any idea what's going on here and how to resolve it?

Try a TRIPP LITE USB cable that has ferrite cores with a USB repeater from the same brand.

Is the DAC synchronous or asynchronous? (look these up)
Also, are you using ASIO (will set the bit depth and sampling rate automatically when you select a new song) 16 bit /44.1 KHz for example.

In theory, it should work. I have always used short cables to keep everything looking tidy.

Thanks for your reply. The DAC is asynchronous. Not sure what ASIO is - software program? Just out of curiosity, is there a way to connect them wireless?
