Dweller on the Threshold hihat -- QUE???

Can someone please enlighten me as to WHY Van Morrison's otherwise beautiful "Dweller on the Threshold" has that horrible icepick EQ on the hihat? I've confirmed this in several systems. What were the engineers/producers thinking and how could George approve it?
