Doing your own cartridge setup

Can anyone give me some feedback on installing a Shure V15VxMR cartridge by oneself? Normally I'd let an "expert" at the dealer do it, but these days turntables, tonearms and cartridges seem to be a forgotten item at all but the most esoteric of high end audio dealers and I'm just unsure of how expert they are where I'm buying the cartridge! I have a VPI HW19 Mk III with an AudioQuest PT-6 T/A. I'm concerned of the VTA, arm height, azimuth, etc. I don't feel I'm knowledgeable enough to get it "all right", doing it myself. Is it easier than I'm making it out to be?

Appreciate some thoughts on the matter.

Hi, Mike:

You will need some setup tools, such as an alignment protractor, stylus force gauge, and bubble level, but they can be acquired fairly cheaply. Check the following Web site for moderately priced stuff:

I'd be glad to talk you through the process of turntable/tonearm/cartridge setup, having done this many times. I'll send you a personal E-mail with my home phone number -- call me if I can be of assistance.
