THEY ARE NOT BAD BUT DON'T BUY THEM NEW. THEY ARE NOT WORTH THE PRICE MOST DEALERS TRY TO GET. I HAVE 5 LD3C'S FOR MY CENTER CHANNEL CONNECTED TO A CARVER A-705x WHICH IS JUST ABOUT THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF POWER. I THINK THEY ARE ALL 6 OHM SPEAKERS, SO KEEP THAT IN MIND WHEN PAIRING THEM WITH AN AMP. ALSO YOU CANNOT PLAY A MUSICAL SIGNAL THROUGH THEM FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME AT LOUD LEVELS. THIS SEEMS TO DISTORT THE ALUMINUM WOOFER CONES. THEY ARE A GOOD LOOKING SPEAKER, HEAVY FOR THEIR SIZE WITH 14kt 5 WAY BINDING POSTS. THEY TAKE A BANANA PLUG WELL. WATCH OUT FOR HEAVY BASS UNLESS YOU HAVE A PREAMP THAT CAN CONTROL YOUR ROLLOFF FREQUENCIES BECAUSE THE DISTORTION WILL BECOME VERY OBVIOUS VERY QUICKLY. I GIVE AN A+ FOR THEIR SUBS AND THE LD3C CENTER CHANNEL, BUT THE OTHERS IN THEIR LINE B+ FOR THE MONEY AND LACK OF HIGH VOLUME HANDLING. BUT I DO PLAY MY STUFF WHERE IT ROCKS...I HAVE 6 VELODYNE 18" SUBS IN THIS SAME ROOM WITH THE LD3C'S.
I have a pair of the LD2's and I will say that they do sound distinctly different from alot of speakers. Its been a while since I heard them because my sister now has them. They are very clean and pristine sounding; even if you are a foot from the speaker you'll notice that sonic quality right away. My other sister doesn't like them and thought they were too "metallicy sounding" (they were being driven with big Van Alstine gear when she heard them). When I had another pair of them several years ago I was running them on jolida tube amp and liked the sound very much, at the time I preferred it to the Thiel CS.5's I also owned (in that particular room). They don't have much bass though, you'll want a sub if your going to play loud or are going for a more balanced sound. The binding posts are some of the nicest of seen on a speaker its size and the cabinet is VERY rigid, especially for a speaker only rated to 80hz. My final opinion is that while the speaker can be quite impressive the first time you hear it it can also become fatiguing quickly if its not your thing. They are very transparent sounding though. I like my Biro L/1's far better, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for the LD2's. Definately see if you can listen to a pair first.
