Different approaches to Tone Arm design

While I was following the Orpheus thread I learned about some of the different types of Tone Arm design.

When these differences where alluded to I was only able to get a hint of what details made the differentiations between enginering approaches that mattered most in those designs.

Please excuse me what follows now will be clear as mud.

Those impressions included which bearing type or bearing placement was desirable

whether it was a one bearing design (uni-pivot?) or multi (what do you call that ?)

Linear or Non-linear tracking

Floating or oil damped ? I not sure if this is tone arm related

rare earth magnets

VTA adjustment capabilities

and a can of worms full of others etc. etc.

These desciptions of mine are abstract impressions and confused.

What I hope for in this thread is to explore with your help and patience the details, options and design approaches that distinguish one type of arms theoretical advantages over anothers.

So hopfully at the end of the thread I will be able to understand arms better than my ass from my elbow !
