DAC/Cable box connection

My TV has an optical output. Not sure if it's a passthrough, has an analog to digital converter, stereo, etc. Not sure what it would do as I've never tried it. See if your TV has one. Maybe that'll work rather than swapping boxes?

Unfortunately, my box is a Magnavox with built-in Dolby which I can't defeat; Look like I'll have to go swap it out if I can. Thanks again for your advice. I'll keep you posted.

Is your cable box set to "PCM" or "stereo"? If your cable box is sending a Dolby Digital signal, then it will cause the DAC to make strange noises.
