Hiendmuse...I also have a Superscout/rim drive with Classic platter and 3D arm. Harry told me the difference between ours and the very top of the line VPI direct drive is almost non existent.
Perhaps - did you mean VPI super platter vs. Classic aluminum platter?? If so...the aluminum has a lighter sound than the super platter which reaches deeper into the bass region. Its just a matter of taste.
more important for a sound improvement is to get rid of the VPI mini feet. The table has to be solidly attached to a solid platform. The minifeet has a rubber gasket in it that does no good. Look at Bearpaws Vermontaudio.com This is a huge improvement
I can't believe some of you like the Superplatter compared to the Classic platter. The difference is very clearly presented with the Super sounding tubby and closed in where the Classic is open and free. They really are at the opposite ends of presentation.
Semi....the Superplatter was manufactured with an out of roundness that worked fine with the belt drive, but was totally unacceptable with the rim drive. If you are interested I have the answer to make it work.. shoot me an E-mail if interested.
