conrad Johnson premium 12 4 ohms and 8 ohms

i got a premium 12 and the previous owner told me it was set as 4 ohms and it will be fine working with 8 ohms speakers and no need to reset it to 8 ohms. So I was wondering How does that work? Thank you in advance!
