I would check the settings on your new phono preamp. You may have too much gain. If you can, lower it and see if that helps. Also, if you have a mix of balanced and SE components, make sure they are set properly, as well. For example, if you have a balanced amp and a SE preamp, you have to make sure the amp is set for SE operation, not balanced.
Component break in
Has anyone ever experienced that as a solid state component breaks it its background noise gets quieter? I am Auditioning a phono pre in my home and am somewhat surprised that this highly vaunted component is noisier right out if the box than my old Pass Aleph Ono. I was assured it would be quieter head to head
