Coda continuum 8

Is it still considered a good amplifier? The old reviews are good.

It’s an excellent amplifier. I have moved on to the #16 though because I could.
I did a shootout with a modded LSA Voyager 350 GAN | CODA #8 | KRELL K-300i. They all had attributes that could make someone go for any of them depending on preferences.

The Voyager was detailed, a bit warm, and not as powerful as the other 2, though likely more than enough grunt for most people.

The CODA #8 was a bit less detailed, a bit more powerful and a bit warmer than the Voyager.

The KRELL was much smoother than the other 2 and with the most power. I do not think it lacks for details either. A great unit.

I went and demoed the CODA #16 this week and it was much cleaner sounding than the CODA #8. It also seemed more detailed but also very smooth like the KRELL K-300i. The KRELL has the first 90 watts in Class A and the Coda #16 has the first 100 watts. So maybe that was what made each amp sound so smooth. I will be trading in my #8 for a #16 whenever I get some cash.

I sold the Voyager and kept the CODA #8 and KRELL.

BTW - I am playing my CODA #8 with the Benchmark LA4 preamp. I also have a CODA 07x preamp. The 07x is warmer sounding and pairs great with the #8,  however, so does the LA4. Benchmark and CODA pair so well together, in any combination. I may sell my CODA 07x once I get it back from CODA. My unit was messed up and if I get a brand new unit it may go up for sale while I keep the LA4.

Nice shootout. im curious about the Coda 07x. I’m weighting my options and considering the 07x and LTA MicroZOTL preamp. The LTA is excellent and I’ve heard the same about the 07x. It would be nice to run all balanced interconnects.

I absolutely love the Coda #16. I made a mistake when I first got it and plugged it into my P15 Regen. It didn’t sound great, strangling dynamics. I plugged it into the wall and it came to life.

@lancelock I remember your adventures with the #16. It was one reason I wanted to hear it. My 07x had some hiss issues and the dealers 07x was almost silent. So they took it back to send to CODA. My LA4 is my baseline for silence and the 07x comes close to that but not as quiet.

I would like to keep the 07x myself but I could use the cash for a potential new headphone amp or the #16.

I have a Torus RM15 which the CODA #8 is pugged into and I do not think is suffers from that. Though the tech in the Torus is what I believe Bryston put into their Cubed or SST2 line of amps for instantaneous power requirements.
Thanks @yyzsantabarbara , I bought the 07x. Doug Dale said there is almost 4 years left on the warranty. A good deal.

@lancelock Congrats, that really was a great deal. A couple of issues to look for. There was some source bleed issues on a small set of preamps. Including mine which was built around April or May 2021 (not really a big deal). There is supposedly a fix for it. My preamp had some other hiss issues and is back with CODA getting fixed. I have heard a properly working 07x at the dealer recently and it is extremely quiet. We could tell mine was clearly faulty.

Even with all the problems I have had with my unit, it sounded great. I think my units problems were related to the shipping. I had to open up my unit up to fix a loose wire on the volume control likely caused by rough handling by the shipper. This likely caused the additional issue I had.

The 07x and #16 were amazing at the dealer. I am getting some pennies together to replace the #8 with the #16.

BTW - today I started using some Cardas XLR to RCA adapter you added in a purchase I made for your old Benchmark AHB2 (maybe 5 years ago). I am going to need that adapter going forward. Thanks.
@lancelock You misunderstood my post. You already sent them years ago (for free) but I never used them until today. I do see my grammar was not that clear.
@yyzsantabarbara

The Coda 07x arrived yesterday and it sounds incredible with my #16. It only had about 10 hours on it so not even broken in yet.
I moved my Coda components from a pair of Legacy speakers in one room to a pair of Fyne in another. Equally excellent with either speaker system.
@lancelock. I heard the #16 and 07x at the dealer 2 weeks ago and I was really impressed, I will get full price for trading in my #8 to the #16 and I hope to do that one day.
