Clearaudio Verify - Bah Humbug

Ugh 

So. I did the classic move and tore the cantilever off my Concept MM with the sleeve of my sweater. 

I ordered a Ortofon 2M Black for a cartridge I had lying around - a Bronze that my daughter and her friend decided to play DJ with and killed the cantilever. 

Could not for the life of me figure out why there was so much sibilance present with the new cartridge. Something I’ve been struggling with since I bought the TT. 

After much headache, I’ve come to the conclusion that as much as I like the concept- forgive the pun - of a magnetic “bearing”, it’s clear that there are some serious shortcomings with the design. 

The magnet prevents the arm from dropping low enough to make contact w the surface of the record when the VTF is set w a scale that measures the pressure higher than the surface. 

Clearaudio should make it clear that if you are setting it up, that the VTF needs to be set exactly at the record surface. 

Next time, bearings are going to be thing I’ll be wanting.
