Hi Paul, I cannot speak for the Classe CA301 but I do have the VK-500 w/ bat pack which I really like. I am using a Vk-30 tube preamp and I think it complements the VK-500 amp as far as synergy goes. What preamp are you currently using or thinking about using because this may also help find a matching amplifier for you. I would definitely try to audition the amps if at all possible.
