As regards the hardware (RCA's in particular), it certainly isn't audiophile quality. But just by being passive it is remarkably transparent. I found this out when I used it to replace an ARC SP-15 that was being repaired. There are better passive preamps, but none cheaper that I know of. As a believer in passives (if not for every system), I think you could do a lot worse.
