Calling all Wadia 170i owners

I recently purchased a Wadia 170i. I'm really satisfied with sound quality, but the volume difference between lossless (ALAC) songs is significant. I listen to a wide variety of music on shuffle mode and I'm forever having to adjust the volume due to the different levels on different tracks.

I did a search in the internet and I'm not finding anyone else with this problem? What am I doing wrong?

I use EAC to rip my CDs and I'm using an iPod Nano (latest generation with latest firmware). I even turned the "sound check" on the iPod, but it makes no difference?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Tamarasue,

I have a 170i and what you are hearing is normal. There isn't a way to even out the volume as the dock bypasses the most of the internal controls on the ipad. I agree, it is a bit annoying.

I've done a few tests when deciding between AIFF and Apple Lossless. I have a playlist where the songs played back to back. I didn't notice any difference in volume between AIFF and Apple Lossless. I have a Wadia 171i and a 151.
