Buying from China

What do you think the impact will be in buying gear from China in the near future. Will the parts supply chain be depleted. Will part s other then those specify be substituted.? Will wait times for electrics will be extended. I can get pretty paranoid about it. Interested in the options of those with better insights. Should I wait awhile until things settle down befor I place my next order? I imagine things are going to be tough for the small hi end audio manufacturer.

That’s without taking into consideration, climate change, Hong Kong, plastic recycling, and overpopulation just to name a few off
the top of my head.
I try to only buy U.S , Canadian , or European. Anything under $100 will be hard to find other than Commie land.
oregonpapa Frank last evening quoted Ayn Rand and espoused his rabid hate and fear for socialism; that made me think about his statement that he started working at age 14 in 1953, which would make him over 80 years old now. I wonder how Frank feels about getting a socialist check in his bank account each month for the past fifteen years and how he would compensate for it were it not forthcoming each month.
If you are pulled over on the interstate and the cops find ten thousand dollars cash in your car, there's a very very good chance they will "suspect" that your money is the proceeds of drug dealing or money laundering or whatever lame reason they can conjure up. And they will take that money as well as your car. Even if you had just come from the bank after taking that money from your account in order to buy a motorcycle from a seller who insisted on cash, you will be victimized by the state and it will take you perhaps several years to prove your innocence. I didn't vote for that. This kind of thing never used to happen until the fear and hate of Bush's global war on terror came along, and with it, the militarization of local cops and sheriff departments. The above scenario does not have a hint of "due process" anywhere in it.
At least In the US you get due process but yeah they can take property for certain reasons. Some of which I don't  agree with I am not pleased with the way they are grabbing land for that brain dead wall.
".....this thread will be gone..."Not unless a snowflake whines about it. Whining; there will be so much whining, you’ll get tired of whining. Yeah. I’m there.
The CCP is the government of China. Yes the CCP allows people to own property and make money. Right up the the point the CCP decides to take peoples property and money. In other words instead of communism in the we all own the property sense, its communism in the you have no real property rights sense.

Things are no different in the US, or Canada, or the UK, or Germany, and so on. Merely a different label, in those specific regards. If they want it, they will take it and they do. More often than you might see it in the news, in the stilted and tilted views of the popular news shows. Eg, if I want truthful western news, I don’t go to western major media to try and see it - that would be a waste of time. 85% of all us journalists were fired in the great purge of the early 2000’s thru the early 2010’s.

The laws changed, with regard to truth vs lies. A Florida woman, an investigative reporter, took Fox to court about lies regarding bovine hormones in milk, a revamped story of hers... it went to the supreme court, and fox escaped it all -by rebranding themselves to being an entertainment company. this cascaded into all the large news and media companies in the us having renamed themselves as ’entertainment’ conglomerates. all news corporations are gone. Seriously. Legally...seriously.

At this point the news legally became a farce and laws about truth telling in news reporting in the US....lost all their teeth. At that point, anything was legal, any sort of lie or fabrication... as it was now legally ’entertainment’. Not news. Look it up, see for yourself. Zero penalties for fabrication and lies as it is now all legally ’entertainment’. Seriously, 110% so. Look it up.

Now it’s just a game, for these ’entertainment’ companies...of riding the edge of perception of this....by the public. the ’news’ as you know it now is not legally required to be truthful. These channels and shows... are all owned by entertainment conglomerates, thus...they are not legally required to tell you any truths, and any lies works, as there is no penalty for misguiding the public. They can be truth telling in some cases or some ways, but with the legal right to mix farce and lies with truth, and no penalties for it. So they really just need enough room to twist things ...just a bit.

And now they have that legal right as it is all entertainment, not news. So they ride the edge of the public perceiving this. News has always been this way, but now, the laws are on their side, the laws have deserted the public, completely. Totally circumvented. No one notices... as the ’entertainment’ companies are careful to work with their ’partners’ regarding this ’situation’.

This is why the us has been knocked down to such a low tier with regard to truth in news, by the global group of watchful journalists. I think the USA is now about 50th on the list, with regard to honesty in news.

If I want the truth on important matters, then I don’t go to western media in the USA. That would be a waste of time.

Elaine Chao was born in Taipei which is in Taiwan 🇹🇼- a democratic state, unlike mainland China 🇨🇳 Her father James Chao founded the shipping company in 1964, well after he came to the United States 🇺🇸 in 1958.

“Active philanthropists, James Chao and his wife established the Mulan Foundation in 1984 to provide scholarships to help students in the U.S. and China access higher education and to promote U.S.-China cultural exchanges.[11]

In October 2012, Harvard University announced that Chao and his family foundation would donate $40 million to the Harvard Business School for the construction of the Ruth Mulan Chu Chao Center and the establishment of the Ruth Mulan Chu and James Si-Cheng Chao Family Fellowship Fund.[12] The Center will be a new building dedicated to executive education, the first building at HBS named after a woman and of an Asian surname.[13][14]

I was wondering how good of a thread this was noticing many pages in such short time, started reading and from China delays it escalated quickly into a political discussion, should we start a political thread?

BTW socialism and communist as social regimes by definition are a little different, in practice, real world examples neither exist, these are just fancy terms and concepts to disguise dictatorship regimes. Stalin and others in Russia, Castro in Cuba, Maduro in Venezuela, Mao Tse Tung (spelling could be wrong don't care to correct me) in China, all the same, populist governments turning into eternal dictatorship to support one person and its close acolytes.

...and in the meantime, Don't show up at my door unannounced.

I will shoot you and burn your body.....I hate zombies.

;)  Just kidding....let's keep me that way.. *smirk*
If anyone has been paying any attention to the various opinions from the major public health organizations over the last few decades, a pandemic has been considered almost inevitable eventually.
Fast convenient travel of all types for ever-increasing users from expanding locales internationally have made the probability of an opportunistic malady spreading geometrically worldwide almost a given.

What can one do in the short term?  Stay healthy, practice good hygiene.  Wash your hands often.  Avoid large crowds if that's practical.  If someone appears 'ill' near you, keep your distance.  If you don't feel well, don't go to work at your office or wherever (at least until you're sure you're healthy again).  If you don't improve significantly or get worse, then seek help. And keep your wits about you.

All of this ought to be SOP anyway.  Succumbing to abject paranoia ("It's a CCP biowar plot!") is counterproductive and uncalled for.

The Chinese themselves have the most to fear from this outbreak.  Their massive population and population centers have the most reason to be very concerned over this.

It's unlikely that you'll contract any disease from handling objects, unless you're in the habit of licking them....so don't.
The C Virus is a sad situation and should not be held against these Chinese manufacturers.  Most are very good business people and will deal with you right up front.  If you do not recognize this situation than it is to your detriment....

Nice example of how to elide. Look it up.

You want to talk business practice, fine. Before the Melody I had a SS integrated made in China. Unlike Melody, designed in China. 100% China. Developed a noise within a year. Dealer had to hound them to get any response. Eventually two of them said they would replace my amp, came to my house, heard the problem, promised to do something, then stopped even returning calls. Only Stewart being willing to take a loss for a friend saved me from what would have been my first and only total loss in 30 years in audio.

I never even bring this up until and unless someone is misinformed enough to try and stand up for Chinese business practices. As if being the most prolific industrial pirates on the planet isn't well known enough already.

And here we go again. 100% accurate information casts CCP in a bad light, some snowflake gets triggered and mods take it down in three, two, one...
No problem with “The man who came down the escalator” in fact Cheers to the President.  China makes some of the best audio equipment and cables on the market...Period.  The C Virus is a sad situation and should not be held against these Chinese manufacturers.  Most are very good business people and will deal with you right up front.  If you do not recognize this situation than it is to your detriment....
Well then, what's one to think of when it comes to Elaine Chao, Mitch McConnel's wife? Her father is one of the 1% of that good 'ol CCP that we're being warned about, owning one of the largest shipping companies in the world, and once busted for transporting cocaine.

Family of hers are all over Mar-a-Lago, getting past security to gain and peddle influence.

As Transportaion Secretary, she steered about 25% of government business to Kentucky at the expense of the rest of the nation, with the help of a former McConnell staffer, who now works for Chao's department.

And then we have that Russian Oligarch, Dmytro Firtash, who's building a multi million dollar aluminum plant in Kentucky, all the better to leverage policy with.

And these criminals represent a side of this country that's perfectly fine with it as long as it's what they think and believe is their side winning.

Insert big sad here.

All the best,

They don't have to tunnel under or sawzall  through the wall  just wait for a big windstorm and it will blow over.
No need, I happen to be even closer. Way way closer than 50 feet.

’Right up the the point the CCP decides to take peoples property and money.’
In some other countries, they call it civil forfeiture.
Yes. And yes. As usual.

The CCP is the government of China. Yes the CCP allows people to own property and make money. Right up the the point the CCP decides to take peoples property and money. In other words instead of communism in the we all own the property sense, its communism in the you have no real property rights sense. But hey don't take my word for it. I have a real live Chinese national sitting not 50 feet from me, you PM me your number I will have him give you a call and splain it to you.
Do posts here really imply that China is a communist country, or am I misunderstanding them?
but because I am ( just a 2% kind of guy ) i run my numbers both ways and the difference between Obama tax rates and the Dumpsterfire tax cut goes right to the ACLU and other worthy caues, most of them suing this criminal administration, and so far mostly winning.....
saddle your kids and grandkids with a trillion $ in debt to build a wall they will tunnel under or sawzall thru....true idiots love a wall in the modern world...

for the factually challenged, Boeing is headquartered in Chicago. They are the for profit people who trusted me with that cool billion dollars......every year...
To say employees are a commodity harkens back to the slave trade, which is still a basic underpinning of our present situation. To assign a certain "value" is incredibly arbitrary when one factors in who is assigning that value.

It also assumes that we are all just islands, alone and aloof in this nation of over 330 million, which is farce. We are a community, down to our genes.

Back then it was good teeth, a strong back and if you could breed that got you ahead. Commodity indeed. I think we are not only past, but beyond that, unless one has drank too much cruel-aid, rationalizing their way through life.

And that, my friend, is not free-market capitalism. It is crony capitalism ... the same as that practiced by the Robber Barons of a century ago and before. An interesting point in our history, if you want to know about crony capitalism, was during the period when the railroads were being built.

When the free market has only the illusion of private ownership, with strict, dictatorial government control, it is indeed "socialism." It is the type of socialism known as fascism, and it was touted by both FDR and Churchill as a viable way to run a country. Both men are on record lauding the fascist system in Mussolini's Italy in the 1930s. Before FDR, it was Woodrow Wilson.  Study the history of the 16th and 17th Amendments to the Constitution for some interesting answers.

From the Guardian article provided by nonoise:

  • What about the capitalist principles that people earn what they’re worth in the market, and that economic gains should go to those who deserve them?

It still applies. Once one realizes that as employees, we are nothing more than commodities on the labor market, one can start figuring out how to increase one's worth in that marketplace. Once realized, then one can start increasing one's skill level. Using that skill level in helping others get what THEY want first, allows money, that always follows the path of least resistance, to flow toward the person who has had the foresight to increase his/her skill, and subsequently his/her value as an employee.

It has always worked for me.

Frank says most high school kids don't know when the government is taking advantage of them. Yet Frank apparently doesn't realize that the government is taking advantage of all of us when they take money from us and give it to hedge fund magnates and investment bank CEO's while those corporate titans pay NO income tax. The raccoon eyed anus mouth moron and pathological liar recently gave them another big tax cut and is figuring on another one before the end of the year. But Frank doesn't see this as being taken advantage of. Maybe when they start cutting his Social Security benefits he will begin to understand who is really taking advantage of who.
Anyone besides me wondering how long these posts will be allowed to stand? Do the Mods work on Sunday??

  • "They party and travel with them, take in and launder their mob money, make lucrative business deals with them ..."

Hey, who said anything about an ex-vice president?

Frank
  • Well, Frank, you didn't know that the president is "invited" to give the SOTU. He does not invite or "sucker" them into attending. Nice try.

One thing I've noticed about statism ... it depletes humor out of existence for its followers. :-)

Frank
I just love it when people decry socialism as if it were communism lite.
The richest among us employ socialism all the time, at every opportunity, as long as it serves their purposes. And, it works wonderfully, which is why they decry it when the rest of us even think of using it.

As for who's closest to actual communists, one need not look any further than the right wing in this country. They party and travel with them, take in and launder their mob money, make lucrative business deals with them, and seem to take advice on how to run the country from them.

If the emperor is wearing any clothes, it's most likely a Kosovorotka and a Katuz to hide his balding pate.

  • "Oh, sorry Frank, I must have gotten Douglas and Boeing mixed up. I am not even certain if Boeing is in OR or WA but your screen name made me "assume" you're in Oregon, next door to Washington."
Boeing is in Seattle, Washington. During WWII my dad worked as a jig builder at Boeing, and my mom worked at the shipyards building merchant marine ships. I was just a little tyke at the time. Rain, rain ... and more rain.

  • That was my point; most people who disparage socialism don't even know what it is.

Typical ... just assume that people don't understand the terms, because they just aren't as sophisticated and as well educated as you. What studies have you performed that allows for that assumption?

I would say that most people who espouse socialism, have no idea what they are talking about. Not your fault of course. I'd place that fault at the feet of our government (socialized) monopolized school systems.

Want to try an interesting little test? Ask any high school senior how many U.S. Senators there are. The vast majority haven't a clue. I've even asked degreed students that question and gotten a blank stare in return. Hey, we learned how government functions in the sixth grade.

Yep, they don't know how their government works, and as a result, they can't tell when their government is taking advantage of them. They do know, however, that the planet will self-destruct in twelve years, that Heather has two Mommies, and that taking from producer Peter, in order to give to collectivist Paul, is a moral endeavor.

Frank

maybe Rush has windmill cancer ? while I feel his pain, I am MUCH more concerned about the coal miners with black lung, now there is a group with pre-existing conditions that deserves help....Merica first indeed...
I cleaned up a lot of Douglas £$¥€ etc including the consent decree and the various superfund sites that make that Santa Monica drinking water oh so appetizing.....

I find the capitalist red herring moronic. I was a lifelong republican, not the current crop of RepubliKLAN. I was responsible and entrusted with a billion dollars in a profit making enterprise every year for five years, more than Dotards fake net worth. I think I can spell fiscal responsibility.
That was my point; most people who disparage socialism don't even know what it is.
@millercarbon

“Jobs follow incentives. Buyers seek value. Pass regulations that make employment costly, make your fiat paper currency dear, don’t be surprised when jobs disappear. For generations we have lived through the managed decline of America. A decline that seemed inevitable and was even gathering steam until the right man came down a certain escalator. Everything changed that day. The world is changing, and for the better. All thanks to the man who came down the escalator.”

right

You mean the “stable genius” that currently sits in a certain house?
The hypocrite who had his goods manufactured in China?

(Good to know who you have copied your impeccable interpersonal skills from...)

Denafrips, Jays Audio, Kinki Studio, Questyle, just to name a few. There are some very good products being designed and manufactured in China.

I guess the “free market economy “ only applies when it benefits Merica.
For the record, the bulk of my gear has been made in the USA. I do not purchase “clones”, nor do I go for the cheapest option available. I do, however, look for the best made component available for the money I have to spend.

The problem, lies with all the fat cats who are profiting greatly from the Orange-otang’s policies (who is supposedly looking after the little guy).
There is all this concern for being able to have something repaired. Nonsense. Once the warranty is up, it’s going to be dependent on what local repair facilities you have access to. And as far as Made in USA, there are no guarantees service will be there for that either. Bought some Monster headphones - Bluetooth capable - not great ones, but not cheap either. Bluetooth stopped working, contacted Monster and “sorry, we don’t offer repair services” was the response.

In reference to Frank's Ayn Rand quote, why attack the messenger when the message is so glib and shallow? Plenty of socialist ideas have and do work effectively its sad that rather than thoughtful discussion of those ideas we’re stuck with sloganeering.

Can't we all just get along? ;-)

@millercarbon  Chuck, I was just funnin' with ya on the Melody amp.
Oak Ridge, Tennessee was active into the 1960s. I bet they got pretty nosey about commies in the woodpile.
Oh, sorry Frank, I must have gotten Douglas and Boeing mixed up. I am not even certain if Boeing is in OR or WA but your screen name made me "assume" you're in Oregon, next door to Washington.
Here where I grew up there is a Tennessee Eastman huge industrial complex, a huge Holston Army Ammunition Depot manufacturing facility, and what used to be the largest book printing facility in the world. All of them had the Communist Party question on their job applications. And, yeah, Nathan Bedford Forrest, the racist military genius, also came from here. And you have also given me some laughs.
Frank presumes to educate us on Communism and Socialism by quoting a wingnut. Maybe Frank doesn't comprehend that every cop, soldier, fireman, public school teacher, and any other municipal water or road worker is a socialist worker. I wonder if they know if they are being murdered or just committing suicide?

Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co.
Hayes & Lunsford Electrical Contractors
That covers nearly fifty years and I can spell all of them without being a fascist or a member of a cult.
What hurts is there are that many racist, charity stealing, Russian loving, P grabbing, fake christians in the USA
Don't mention it. And I am not the fascist here. I just thought that someone who worked at a company should be able to spell the name of that company unless they just swept the floor there. Sorry.
