It is unfortunate, but from what I have read and from more information that is coming out ......the IRS was after Butch for a large sum of money. Too bad as I think that if the music world was contacted and made aware of this issue with Butch and you got somebody who has had the experience dealing with the IRS - that I am sure somebody would have stepped up and done something to help the guy out. Hey they have had benefits concerts for much less......
A friend of mine, a casual Facebook friend of Trucks, was chatting on-line with him the day before his death. Trucks was sharing memories of childhood-- sharing a photo of a roll of caps from a toy pistol, a story about catching a fish dinner from a pond by tossing in an M80 in to raise them to the surface--now evident as final reflections. He was financially secure, with multiple homes in the US and France.
Sad, a suicide. I last saw him at a Lucinda Williams show a couple of years ago when he took over for her drummer at the end of her show. Wow! Did he pick things up!
Incredible drummer / musician and I had heard rumors of a possible re-union which would have included Dickey Betts.  ( ABB was never the same when he left ) Really too bad that will not occur now ....real sad news and only 69 years old. You will be missed Butch ......
