Hi Charlotte,

There were several models within the Altair series:
Altair
Altair Pro
Altair Signature
Altair Reference

These are the specifications for the Altair:

Frequency Response: 44-24,000 Hz
Frequency Response with EFC (Electronic Foundation Control): 29-24,000 Hz
Impedence: 6 ohms nominal (4 ohms minimum)
Sensitivity: 88 dB
Power: 20 watts minimum, 300 watts maximum
Crossover: 450 Hz at 12dB per octave, 3400 Hz at 6 dB per octave
Dimensions (overall): 27 3/4" x 20 1/4" x 12" deep
Weight: 40 lbs each

The Altair is a full-range dynamic dipole speaker. It uses a 1" polymer soft dome tweeter on the front, a 3/4" tweeter on the rear, an open-back ceramic coated 5" midrange and a 10" carbon/polypropylene long-throw woofer in an aperiodic loaded woofer chamber. The cabinet is pyramid shaped (for acoustic alignment of the wavefronts) and coated with multiple layers of compliant ceramic. None of the walls are parallel to each other which minimizes internal standing waves. The crossover uses very high quality parts, are matched to 1% tolerences between right and left channels and implements star grounding and point to point wiring with TARA Labs wire and silver content solder. The Altair can be single or bi-wired plus single or passively bi-amped (very early versions only had one set of inputs). The EFC is an optional outboard electronic unit that is placed in the elctronics chain. It was designed by Walt Jung (world renowned audio electronics expert) specifically for the Altair to provide extension and alignment of the woofer section.

You can see many reviews of the Altair at: http://www.brightstaraudio.com/reviews.htm (go to the end of the page).

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best,

Barry
Hi Barry,

Thank you for your response.

I have the opportunity to purchase a used pair of your speakers though Audio Web (I believe), I was looking for some reviews and could not find any... I checked your web site and did not see any specifications. So, that's why I decided to run this post on Audiogon.

I am quite familiar with some of your isolation products (I do owe an AIR MASS 3)whici - I know - are extremely effective.

Thanks again.

Hi Charlotte,

I am the designer of the Altair series of speakers. Please let me know if you have any questions about them.

To the moderator and other Audiogon members: Am I allowed to direct Charlotte to the Bright Star Audio website for more info or can I mention the content of any of the magazine reviews on these speakers? As a manufacturer, I am concerned about violating any Audiogon policies.

Best Regards,
