I have heard them at a couple of shows. I am not sure what your price range is, but both their Catalina monitors and Petra full range speakers are expensive. If I remember correctly the Catalina are in the 20k range and the Petra significantly more than that. The Catalina sounded excellent, but there is tremendous competition for monitors at or below that price. Show conditions make it impossible to say if the price is validated in respect to other fine monitor systems.
The times I heard the Petra, I got the impression that they were too big for the room. They are a substantially large speaker and would be no doubt capable of filling a large room with great sound. The look of Petra would obviously be another matter altogether. Only you can decide if the look is for you.
Lastly, they have a small floor stander called Art Deco that uses a coaxial drive unit and comes in under 3k if I remember correctly. These are not as refined in the treble as the other two, but they are certainly competitive in their price range and worthy of an audition. Hope this helps.
Timlub, that is why I was hesitant about the value proposition of both of them. Resale would likely take a large hit if you ended up not loving them. And at those prices, you better love them. The relative value of the Art Deco seemed to be more in line with the MSRP. Listening to them yourself first would be the best option before jumping in.
Good to see a response.
A small company not well known I assume.
I am interested in the experience of working directly with a speaker builder from start to finish.
It would be nice to hear from those who have also chosen this approach and their results.
Many good choices at this point that I hope to narrow down.
I thought I should go ahead and add a little bit to my previous post.
The Bogdan mini monitors that I had became tiresome to listen to. It was a little bit like seeing a t.v. with the color turned way up. At first it looks good but then after a while you realize that it's not natural...
The bogdans, in my small room, were too much. The bass overwhelmed my room and the highs were a bit taxing and induced listener fatigue.
They definately used high quality parts (clarity caps, seas midbass and fountech neo cd3.0 tweeter) and the cabinets were built like tanks.
Another thing is that I couldn't get past the look of the speakers and the build quality of the cabinets. The tweeters were positioned slightly off level too which bothered me. The woodwork was so so, with slight defects, splitting and wood that was not lined up properly.
They are by no means bad speakers but the initial enthusiasm for the sound quickly wore off. I have had quite a few speakers but none that impressed me so much initially only to become too much a week later.
I wouldn't judge Bogdan Speakers based on the mini monitors that I owned though, since these were a one off speaker and I do believe his other speakers are quite different.
