Bobby Womack passes at 70

Ending an amazing legacy of music and a personal life scarred by drug problems and multiple diseases the great Soul icon Bobby Womack slipped away on June 27th at the age of 70.Discovered by Sam Cooke,Womack and his brothers formed the Valentinos and were recorded by Cooke for his SAR label in the early mid 60's.In 1964 they scored a chart topping success with the hit "It's all over now" covered by the Rolling Stones.Cooke's early death stalled Womack's career, but it moved into high gear in the early 70's with hits like "Across 110th street" and others. He was acknowledged for his many contributions by his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame in 2009.Womack was a consummate musician, singer and writer whose talents were more appreciated by fellow musicians and the press, and as always, this rarely translated into monetary success.Despite his many personal issues he continued to persevere in the ever changing world of music, this guy would not give up,he had a powerful passion for music.
