bizarre speaker connections....

I'm attempting to upgrade some speakers on a micro system...but it doesnt accept conventional wire...instead there is a small rectangular connector that plugs into a pin connector on back of amp...4 small colored coded wires are then permanently connected to supplied speakers...if I clip and strip these from.the speakers...and keep the ones to the amp as is ...can I use new speakers?

The amp in a micro system is usually designed to drive the speakers in that system and not speakers in general. If it has the wiring you describe there is a good chance it will not work well with other speakers but who knows?
Hi, the hook-up looks familiar.
If your mini-system is branded Nakamichi, the two extra wires carry DC for the power amplifiers, which are built into the speakers.
