B&W CDM 1NT

Hi,

Can someone who is familiar with the B&W compact monitor series shed light on the newer generations. I've tried to follow the history but the renaming to 700, CM, etc is confusing. I'm basically looking for a similar monitor with similar quality as the CDM 1NT. Also, any one known to stay away from.

Thanks

I’d take the opportunity to explore other brands as well, as there are a lot of awfully good monitors out there today.

Yes, but I'm looking for a similar B&W sound signature in an updated model. I thought I start here.

That doesn’t preclude going out and listening to other speakers.  The CDM 1NT came out like 30 years ago and a lot of improvements have been made since then, so especially if you haven’t gone to audition speakers in a while it would likely prove to be a very worthwhile, and fun!, exercise.  Brands like Totem, ProAc, Joseph Audio, Usher, Sonus Faber, Spendor, Amphion, and Reference 3a among others are more than competitive with B&W and would be well worth seeking out for an audition just for personal reference and perspective if nothing else.  I worked for Magnolia at Best Buy for a bit and wasn’t all that impressed by the base 700 series monitors that would be the likely candidate given what you’re looking for (the Signature version probably sounds much better but also much more $$$), which is why I think it’d be a very good idea to listen to some alternatives.  FWIW and best of luck.
