Audiophile Special Event Songs Weddings, etc.

Tonight I was sitting and listening to Eva Cassidy sing her rendition of "At Last" and it struck me that it would be a really beautiful song for a wedding dance. My wedding song was "Moonlight Serenade". I had loved the song ever since I heard it in the Tom Hanks movie "Big" (they were dancing at the park).

What was your special event "Audiophile Song"? Why?

Or what was your "Non-Audiophile" song? Why?

Enjoy the evening,

DM's "Somebody". Recently, on the drive from a relative's wedding to their reception, my date and I concluded that getting Martin Gore to sing that song at our respective weddings would well be worth his $10k booking fee. Maybe we could also get Fletcher for fifty more dollars, who knows?
Our wedding song was Chris DeBurgh's "Lady in Red." Why? It was the song playing on the day that I met my wife.
Ours was Frank Sinatra/Nelson Riddle Orchestra "Fly Me To The Moon" and David Bromberg Band version of "Tennessee Waltz"
Ours was Ray Charles and Betty Carter singing "Ev'ry time we say goodbye".

My sister danced to Roy Orbison's "In Dreams" at hers.
Wow- I hope no women see this thread and accuse us of sensitivity!

Forgive me for taking a VERY different tack here, but this particular musical performance was not at a wedding...but did occur on a special- and very somber day. I don't share this to bring anyone down....I was just reminded of the powerful impact of music by this thread.

On Sept. 11, 2001, I happened to be attending a trade show in Chicago's McCormack Place. When I arrived that morning at about 9:00 am, the entire hall was in shock as we collectively watched the morning's events unfold. The most somber, quiet mood descended over that huge facility. Then, without fanfare at all, a young woman working the trade show at a competitors booth took the stage, and alone, sang the Star-Spangled Banner. Her voice was beautiful, and filled the entire hall. You could hear nothing but her voice.

When she finished, the entire facility broke into tears and applause.

I'll never forget THAT special event. Music is a most powerful and comforting force- in both happy AND sad circumstances.
